Sorry, I typed a response on my phone, but must have never click post. The prize and the competition are completely separate. My intention is still to build the car to compete in that competition. A couple changes have come up in the rules which allow for some additional spend without impacting the budget. The biggest is using Kuhmo brand tires. As they are a sponsor of the event, their products aren't counted to the car's budget. The other is a bolt in roll cage. We'll have to pay for the mount points, but the cage then becomes "free" from a budget perspective. OEM replacements on brakes are "free" as well. We've thought about using the Jag rear end and diff. It's not off the table yet. The biggest advantage to using the Ford is the availability of gear ratios which can be swapped into it. That will let us pick the most ideal ratio for the car. The other part is that they are very common in the US, and thus... very cheap!
