  1. The car that saved Lotus (allegedly) was the Elise so why not make an all new Elise. Sell at similar money to the current model and the slightly low rent aspects of small volume build can be overlooked. A new Esprit would need a bespoke V8, high end interior and a body not made of grp to justify its price tag, in other words a huge leap from the Evora that I struggle to see Lotus being able to achieve.

Because to design and engineer an all new Elise will cost a similar amount to doing an Esprit - and manufacturing costs are similar too. The Elise has got cheaper and cheaper since its inception - my S1 111S was £30k, it wasn't a cheap car. There is also much more competition now.

It's volume Lotus need, whatever model they sell.

I've been a loyal customer for the past 13 years, not to mention a couple of Lotus cars going back to '87... I'm thinking of changing my car next year and as Lotus don't feel it's important to keep my interest I'm looking elsewhere....

The cars are good... BUT thanks to DRB's complacency I'm discovering other people make some damn good cars too...

Well done DRB, you're doing a great job for your competition! :harhar:

Same here, sadly. I very much doubt my next toy will be a Lotus.

  2. A friend of mine (and ex-Esprit owner) studied the required 20 hours a day for many years to become a barrister. He is now very senior in marketing for Mercedes having never practised law despite passing all the required elements 5 years ago!

Most of my colleagues studied successfully to become Doctors of Medicine and now work as medical reps as it pays more, doesn't make sense.

  3. I've nothing at all against cyclists and the number that are killed and maimed is terrible. But it wouldn't happen so much if they followed the rules of the road as they do in other countries. I was in a Danish hospital earlier this year and the anaesthetist was late as she'd been stopped and fined for going through a red light. She said she normally wouldn't do it as fellow cyclists shout at you but she was running late and the road was quiet.

But it's not just cyclists who don't follow the rules here, how many cars do you see with only one headlight working, no brake lights or parked on the wrong side of the road with their lights on?

  4. The only way is to separate bikes and cars. I have sat at traffic lights looked the car driver in the eye next to me and the ***hole still tried to run me over.

I disagree, other cities have far more bikes than London and don't have the same issues, I work in the Nordics a lots and I'm amazed how many bikes there are. There is no way you could separate them completely - they don't always use the lanes etc when they are there and then they still don't stop at lights (well some of them).

The majority of cyclists do follow the rules, if they all did the accident rate would plummet AND perhaps other road users would be more considerate to them.

  5. I think I've now narrowed mine down to a Vantage, or keeping the Evora and buying a second car.

The F Type just didn't excite me like the Aston's do, it's a great looking car though. Make sure you can live with the extremely small boot, it's almost Elise/Exige like. Just a bit flatter. Ashame.

Vantage Roadster boot is even smaller than the Jags!

The Jag will depreciate very heavily I predict.

  6. I've narrowed it down to the Vantage Roadster or F Type. My next car will be one I will keep a long time and I feel the Aston will be the better buy for that. The Vantage is a beautiful design and will look good and be considered a classic in years to come - the Jag will just be an old Jag.

  7. I had a Rolex Datejust and 1950s Explorer. I got sick of the costs of servicing them and as my boys don't wear watches I sold them.

I now wear a £250 Casio Ediface with auto time zone adjust etc. strange thing is more people say 'that's a nice watch' than they ever did with my Rolex which were over 20x the cost. This keeps better time too.

  8. The way some cycle I'm not surprised one bit by the number of deaths the way some cycle. I was by the Hilton Metropole when a cyclist shouted at a group of people get watch the f'ing road when he almost hit them - the lights were at red for him and green for pedestrians to cross. I've seen several patients who have almost been killed by cyclists - one fourteen year old girl had to have her spleen out after being hit.

A large percentage of London cyclists ignore the road signs they are supposed to abide to making life dangerous for themselves and pedestrians.

If you go to other cities like Copenhagen there are even more cyclists but they are prosecuted the same as other road users. I feel we should do the same here.

  9. The F Type itself is a good looking car, but even in the customer car park there were people swarming round the Evora.

Big mistake by Jaguar making the boot so small. Lovely car, but no point having one if you can't get any weekend luggage in the back!

I had the same at the Jag dealer, same at the Porsche dealer too.

The F Type boot is surprisingly around 30% latger than the Vantage Roadster but in Vantage Coupe it's 50% larger.

  10. Stop procrastinating and go and buy the newest model Vantage your budget will allow. It doesn't matter in the slightest that it won't lap Hethel as quickly as an Evora as its other ownership qualities transcend mere lap times and ultimate 10/10ths feel. Having said that, they're far from a dim witted slow steer that some perceive. They can be very nimble and communicative when required.

This comment from a few weeks ago isn't representative of everyone's tastes. Certainly not mine.

I've driven many Evoras and not once has there been a desire to get my chequebook out and that's coming from someone who has owned and driven various types of Lotus for over twenty five years. The Evora is an incomplete package and although they might attract attention from the public, it's simply novelty factor. Good effort from Lotus, but let's hope the next car has a more desirable image.

Not representative of everyone's tastes, but neither is yours, someone agrees with me after driving them back to back three posts before.

I'm not knocking the Aston, I'm very likely to purchase one in the next twelve months.

  11. I've never been a Porsche fan but was invited to the launch of the Boxster S during which I drove a Boxster S, Cayman S and 911. I must say both the Boxster and Cayman are absolutely fantastic to drive, have loads of luggage space and are very well put together.

It would just feel wrong buying one for some reason.

Shame as there is nothing in the Lotus stable I'd replace the Evora with.
