  1. Religion doesn't cause wars, individuals use of religion for their own means does.

I was brought up a Christian, I never attended Church until we happened to go one Christmas for the Nativity (I'd be about 33). We enjoyed it and became regular Church goers and very active in Church life. I was even elected a member of the local Parochial Church Council. As the kids got older and the old Vicar (who was a top bloke) retired we stopped going and haven't been for around three years.

I really enjoyed the Church and friends we made there but I have to consider myself a non believer.

I've seen a great deal of suffering, I've seen good people suffer horrible lives and this along with me being essentially a scientist means I cannot believe in some being out there who controls everything (unless it's Bernie Eccelstone).

  2. Buddsy,

The bottom bit is where the wood is stored. Top bit hosts the fire and the food like this

  3. Lotus really can't win. If they announce a new car no one buys the existing model, if they announce a face lift everyone knows a facelift comes before a new model so.......

If you like what's on offer buy it, you may not be around when the new model is finally released.

  4. Evora- 2009.... It's 2014.  I guess when things move so slowly 5 yrs. must seem like yesterday..

And seriously what improvements have been made to the Evora in 5 yrs. ?

The changes have been subtle but if you sit in a 2009 car and a 2014 car the difference is night and day.

  5. Once people know an update is coming they either will wait to part with their cash or expect a big discount. Lotus shouldn't show anything until it's ready to go into production - and all the stupid niggles need fixing too, they cannot afford another Evora launch disaster.

When you read back over the initial reviews all say it looked great, drove fantastically but was very poorly put together. Any potential newcomer to Lotus switched off after reading that. It was a missed opportunity, Top Gear still compare it with Ferraris five years on!

  6. Pulled in at Silverstone on Friday behind a newish 911. The guy got out and was all over the Evora. Said it was the first he'd seen. He looked confused after he asked how long I'd had it and I said almost three years. He thought they'd only been out around a year. I asked if he was confusing it with the Exige V6 but he said no. He was all over it.

Saturday morning same place, another 911 at the side of me this time and virtually the same conversation.

Lotus marketing clearly isn't working - with Porsche owners anyway.

  7. Great shot of the factory and test track!

I wish the new team every success.

I hope they're willing to be brave and bold with their advertising. Bahar lost the plot big style but the bland mediocrity that followed was even worse.

Buying a sports car is a glorious act of madness. A rare victory for the heart over the head. You simply can't bore someone into doing it.

    Nicely put.

I hope the new marketing chief sees the need for showing the breed at the racetrack on the world stage. The Evora needs to go back to the track! I also hope they'll have some even bigger news comes Paris autoshow.

Are they at Paris? I thought the plan was Geneva next year.

  8. Interestingly I was just discussing the situation with my dealer yesterday.

I got my MY2011 Evora S in early 2011 with the intent to keep it five years. I have always had three year leases on my cars, but in hindsight the decision to go for 5 with the Evora was absolutely right. Nonetheless, I will have to make some decisions on how to go forward next year. Currently I don't really see any reason to trade the car for a then MY2016 Evora. Sure the 2012+ cars were improved, but I've retrofitted all the key items and additionally invested heavily into tuning and other improvements. True, a five-year old car has a higher risk of major repairs, but would that be worth the hit you take for buying a new car?

OK, I could get an Exige S or V6 Cup, but it would be hard with that as my only car. I really need the space and long distance cruising potential of the Evora. A Cayman would seem like a logical alternative, but, for all the obvious reasons I'd just rather not.

It basically comes down to the fact that Lotus needs to get something new out if it wants to get these potential repeat sales. A facelifted Evora would be a good and essential start. I'll definitively buy one, but only if I'm convinced there is a significant improvement over the current car.

I'm in exactly the same boat, looked at the Exige V6 but it's not really what I want.

I have decided to keep mine until they announce whatever they will announce at Geneva next year.

  9. Ian Jamison in York can repair just about anything. He gets wheels sent from all over the UK. He powder coats but if he doesn't have a colour match he can get the wheel painted or you can get it painted yourself.

I badly damaged a wheel on the Evora and three places said it couldn't be repaired, Ian has done work before for me and repaired it no problem. He had a pile of aircraft wheels in for repair last time I was there. He'll also 'unbuckle' wheels if need be.
