  1. I didn't have any problem but perhaps I was lucky because I have heard of others having problems. Did you remove all of the nuts? Mine had 8 total. There was also some sealant type goo around the holes in the body work that held the bumper on even with all the nuts removed. A slight tug popped the bumper off. Tad
  2. Here's a couple photos of my the new bumper and original bumper Apologies for the poor quality, blame it on Apple.
  3. I have a USA model Esprit that suffers from the dreaded wavy front bumper. About the only way I knew to repair was to just replace with a bumper from SJ which is a European bumper. Came in looking great but the mounting points are totally different that the USA bumper. Can anyone let me know how these European bumpers are mounted? Pictures would be most helpful too! Thanks, Tad
  4. Understood I'm almost 100% positive this wasn't an owner installed addition though.
  5. Does anyone know what factory or factory approved dealer installed options were available for the 1987 Esprit? Found some extra wiring on my car that look factory installed and curious what it was originally for. Thanks Tad Bailey 1987 HCi Birmingham, Alabama
  6. Need to find out the best way to check and or remove distibutor from a Fed verison, 1987 Turbo Esprit (With injection). My first technical post and I'm embarrased by my request. Although I have years of mechanical experience as a shade tree mechanic, even previously owned a 1968 Elan, this car has me scratching my head. I want to make sure the basics before looking at the injection. I even just ordered an Injection pressure gauge. Just bought this car and overall am happy with what I ended up with but it's got a few drivability problems. Here's my symptoms: Car starts OK but does require some pumping of the accelerator to get to fire which I don't think is correct. I even flooded it once and had to change the plugs out. Plenty of fuel on the plugs and overall very black. As it gets to operating temp it stumbles and acts like it's fouling a plug or 2. Once warm it drives OK and pulls strongly but overall driving it's not as smooth as I'd figure. At idle, well it has a hard time idling when warm and will die if I don't give it a little gas. I've tried to adjust the idle but this didn't help and I noticed that the adjustment screw was already almost at the end of it's adjustment. Don't even get me started on a timing belt change which will be coming up shortly. Thanks, Tad

    New Owner

Just purchased a 1987 Turbo Esprit. Lord knows what I was thinking but happy non the less. Previously owned a 1968 Elan so am quite familiar with the Lotus way of building cars. I have a nice collection of Alfa's that are really my passion but perhaps this Esprit will find it's rightful place. Overall the car is in pretty darn good shape. Trying to go through previous owners paperwork to see what's been done. Pretty sure a timing belt, etc. is first on my list and also look into the injection which needs some tuning. I tend to ask a lot of questions and will try and answer any y'all have when I have something intelligent to say. Don't live in what would be considered a "hot bed" of Lotus owners but am friends with the folks at the Barber Museum. Tad Bailey Birmingham, AL
