Yes, odd video subject matter, but I did watch it all the way through. The silly bit is that most of his classic cars parked in the background have gone up in value hugely, so why worry about depreciation on his new everyday Emira? Selling as soon as he did and at the price he got for it was pretty much the worst thing he could have done from a depreciation point of view. Perhaps he was originally banking on flipping the Emira for a profit? He wanted to be one of the first owners and filmed his car being assembled on the production line. Maybe he just got cold feet as used prices started to fall. He must have dipped into his savings to get the McLaren, so it wasn’t a like for like swap. Anyway good luck to him. 🙂

I could be wrong, but I have a theory that Harry’s Emira probably spent more time at the dealers having things fixed than we will ever know.   The early cars like Harry’s seem to be the most problematic.    So maybe this, combined with the depreciation, led him to think “sod this, I’m getting rid”….

  2. Ah sorry to hear that Bibs, it’s sad to hear Lotus are making people redundant again 😕

I’ve got it all now, and it was only a few quid, but thanks for the offer.   Having taken half the interior out to replace the amp and sub I’ve already had my value for money!

  3. Hehe love it - don’t forget the following additional opportunities:

    - Going through a forest (or any moderately tree lined roads)

    - Passing primary schools at kicking out time (lots of pointing and cries of “corrrrr” guaranteed)

    - When finally passing a group of 40-something road-owning cyclists, all in matching Lycra, who eventually reluctantly move over (a bit) and think they are Team Sky, but in reality most of them belong to Team Pie

    - When passing a single cyclist, who you happen to know owns a Tesla or Porsche Takeaway thing, just to remind them what proper cars sound like

    - At pedestrian crossings, when there’s a 90 year old crossing with a walking frame*

I’m well aware of the raised rev limit in Sport mode too (couldn’t be bothered to quote your previous reply.

*OK, I lied about that one.   I couldn’t bring myself to do that….!

I fitted an alpine ILX-705D  which does wireless carplay.

It's fantastic and i thought worth the premium over the 690.

I also fitted the alpine multi view rear camera and added a front camera which is perfect when parking up to walls and curbs.

Where did you get the multi view rear camera and how does the multi view work?  I’ve recently bought an ILX-705D too, and simply bought an adapter lead to connect to the yellow rear cable RCA plug.   Presume with a multi view camera you needed to fit a new cable all the way to the rear cam ?

Which front camera did you go for?   I might have a go at that, seems the cable routing is straightforward.

And finally, did you manage to get the speed sensitive volume working - there’s a speed pulse wire on the 705, I connected mine to the right cable in the car but it doesn’t work (I have the GPS antenna connected too).

  5. Cheers - it opens at about 4500rpm, in any engine mode, but I quite like burbling around with it open all the time.   I said to myself when I bought the car “I won’t open it until I leave the village” but I find myself reaching for that little button every time I start the car now 😊

  6. I’ve recently upgraded my head unit (and speakers) in the 400.   Focal 130AS and lots of sound deadening in the doors etc.  Sounds really superb and I haven’t even got the sub working yet.

One thing that doesn’t seem to work is the speed sensitive volume.   So when you speed up it doesn’t get any louder, and of course doesn’t the volume doesn’t decrease when you slow down either.

My head unit is the Alpine ILX-705D, and whilst there’s no mention of speed sensitive volume in the Alpine manual, it does have a speed pulse wire in the harness.   So I’ve plugged in both the GPS antenna and connected the speed pulse wire to the yellow and pink wire in the OEM white connector block (on the car side) which is the speed wire according to research - but it still doesn’t work.

Has anyone got an Alpine (other than the OEM INE 990BT) and managed to get this to work?

  7. I’ve noticed that Lotus call the valve in the 400 exhaust an ‘Engine protection valve’.   Does that mean you’re supposed to wait for it to be fully warmed up before you open the valve or something?    Can’t imagine that’s the case - I guess it’s just more free flowing with less back pressure with the valve open?

  8. I paid for an hour’s access and downloaded all the service notes for the 400 recently.   There is one section that fails to download properly though.   I’ve emailed Lotus (technical) and chased them too, but no reply.   I’ll have to chase them again - @Bibs do you have any contacts at Hethel who could have a word with them to actually get a response, by any chance?

I have  a ILX wW90D and my sub woofer works fine ,have you turned it on through the sound menu? also the the rca leads are the leads you use for the sub not the lotus harness which only powers the door speakers.

Yes, turned on and connected via the RCA leads.    Have you actually put your hand over the sub when you’re playing music?    It’s easy to think it’s working when actually it’s the amp boosting the bass from the woofers in the doors….

  10. So Lotus in their infinite wisdom fitted 5.25” speakers to the doors in the 400, compared to the 6.5” in the Evora S1.   Gee, thanks…..

I’m looking to upgrade mine as part of an overhaul of the audio, and have come across a couple of US forum posts where 400 owners have successfully fitted 6.5”.     Has anyone on here done it?   Clearly it would be way better than replacing with the same size.  The first guy mentions that he had to dremel a little out of the door  to get them to fit but I can live with that I think (depends how much!).
