  1. Looking to purchase a good condition water pump for a 1995 Lotus Esprit S4S. Pump must be of "rebuildable condition" without cracks, severe corrosion or pitting in the casting. Please provide photos from all angles and price. You must include a picture of the item with a hand written note with your LotusForums user name. This will prove that you actually have the item and you are not using a previously posted photo.
  2. Thanks Sparky. I have not noticed any issues or leaks with the Master Clutch cylinder. I will pass this along to my mechanic. Any other ideas very much welcomed too.
  3. My Esprit (1995 S4S) is in for service with the last item of bleeding the clutch line (has steel braided hose). My mechanic (and three assistants working simultaneously) cannot get all the air out of the line. He tried vacuum bleeding, pressure bleeding, hanging the slave with nipple upright and bleeding, depressed clutch pedal with stick jammed against seat rails over night but nothing has worked. Needless to say he is at wits end. Does anyone have other suggestions or tricks to remove all the air from the clutch line?
  4. Thanks gents...some very very helpful information here. The cambelt was done in 2018 (black belt) and has approx 7-8000 kms on it. Oil was changed just prior to storage and tires were over inflated to approx 40lbs to help avoid permanent flat spotting. I left the battery out as I did not trust any electrical gremlins/power surges, or freak electrical accidents to cause issues down the road.
  5. Looking for advice on bringing my 1995 S4S out of storage after 2 years of slumber. I put stabilizer in the tanks prior to storage but would like to drain the old gas out before start up. Is it possible to siphon both tanks through the fill doors? Also; the car did not have any battery for the 2 year period nor has the engine been turned over. Should I be alert to any ECU issues, etc? Any other recommendations or concerns to watch out for? Much appreciate it!
  6. Thanks BK and SailorBob for taking a look at my Freescan log. No CEL showing and the car runs fine (albeit; I have notice at highway speeds an ever so slight hesitation to accelerate when depressing the gas pedal further). To my knowledge the car does not have an aftermarket chip. I have owned the vehicle for 2 years now and the previous owner did provide an additional chip. I have not installed it as I prefer to keep the car OEM. Do not wish to incur the wrath of the Lotus Gods or Murphy's Law by changing out parts I'm not familiar with.
  7. Planning on taking the Esprit (1995 S4S) to my mechanic for general maintenance next week and decided to pull a Freescan log to see if all is well. If not I can have him look into any ECM issues that may be lurking. Problem is I cannot understand the majority of the data. Can any of the membership interpret on my behalf? Much appreciate your assistance. lotsep10.xls
  8. Decided to tackle my first oil change since purchasing the car (1995 S4S) last year (had my mechanic perform this task previously). Purchase the oil filter from JAE and oil from a local BMW dealership (10W60 which btw is more rare than a Sasquatch sighting). Read all the oil change and jacking instructions as per LEW,,,, - jacked up the car with stands in place - crawled under with my trusty 19mm wrench in hand and,,,,??????!!!!!! Lotus is using a drain bolt requiring an Allen key,,,not a run-of-the-mill 19mm bolt head. AARRGGHHH!!! Of course I do not own such an animal. My question(s) is/are: - what size Allen key should I be use to get the oil drain plug out with? Not much clearance due to a strut in the way. - any other surprises I should be aware of before proceeding? - the oil filter came with a small O-ring. What the heck is that for? - I am even considering purchasing one of those hand held pumps whereby you can extract the oil through the dipstick. Has anyone tried this method of oil change? Would be very convenient (no jacking, crawling under the car, or spilled oil on the floor). Thanks for your help!
  9. pm on this ABS part much appreciated here as well!
  10. Thanks Jonwat. I did indeed read that article. At long last my mechanic was able to rectify the problem. Turns out to be a stuck (brake?) solenoid. He interchanged solenoids and the problem moved to the opposite caliper on the front. Using brake fluid as a cleaner, a fashioned electrical harness to apply power, and compressed air (plus plenty of patience) he managed to get the unit "unstuck" and the front brakes are functional once again (phew!) Now I know what it is like to be an expectant dad. p.s........... On a separate note when he took the car for a test drive, he noted some odd creaking from the passenger side of the car. When he worked at a Lotus dealership customers would sometimes complain of a similar noise. After much investigation turns out the body bolts (behind the seats) may become slightly loose causing creaking or chassis thump at its worse. A simple remedy was to place large washers under the bolt heads (if I understood correctly) and tighten down to displace the gripping power/firm things up.
  11. My '95 S4S is at a service centre for a C-service and my mechanic (experienced with Esprits) is having an issue with the brakes after a brake system flush. Apparently the caliper on the front right hand side is not operating for reasons unknown (caliper pistons are operational) and the car pulls left. He has flushed the system and gotten all the old fluid out. On the master cylinder there are 2 bleeder nipples one of which will squirt fluid under pressure but the other one will only dribble fluid. Has anyone experienced a similiar problem with the front brake caliper or have ideas why this is happening? Many thanks!
