I could continue the rant, but I'll simply leave it with the comment, suffice to say I do not find any uninvited interaction with a dog acceptable in any way, contrary to the seeming opinion of most dog owners.

+1 Both my kids (4yr old and 2yr old) are terrified of dogs and most things on 4 legs after being jumped up on and pushed over by uncontrolled dogs in the park.  The owners at best responded to a screaming toddler with "he's very friendly,  a big softy really" while dragging their dog away,  more typically with a complete lack of concern.  And don't get me started on owners (my autocorrect makes that offenders!) who think it's acceptable for their pet to cock its leg over a pram with a baby in it!

  2. I'm running a 2011 NA Evora which has an odd thing going on with the coolant temperatures which I don't know if it's  at all normal.  Trundling along at town speeds temperatures warm up to normal (halfway or slightly lower on the gauge) as I'd expect.  If I then have a short spirited drive on the country roads for 5 miles or so,  using more of the rev range,  the temperature vanishes back down the scale.  Usually down to a few pixels above the bottom,  but on a cold night two days ago temperatures dropped right off the bottom of the scale which was more worrying! Going back in to town driving the temperature slowly comes back up. The little sustained motorway driving I do the temperature sits around 1/3 up the scale.

Last time I was out for an extended drive (back end of the summer) I don't recall anything unusual in temperatures later in the journey.  To my non mechanical mind it's like there's a reservoir of cold coolant somewhere in the system that's being flushed past the temperature sensor once coolant starts circulating when the revs rise. So I don't know if this is normal and a symptom of the short journeys/initial warm up period or something to worry about and indicating a blockage?

I use the phone's USB connector and Android Auto auto-starts

    Thanks Russ!

My last phone pre-dated android auto,  I'll try again with my latest and see how that gets on.

Did IncarTec change anything besides the head unit, i was thinking of changing the speakers?  I'm pretty certain the sub in the back isn't doing anything either...

This unit works really well with Android phones, though. 👍

Does it? How? On my last phone i paid for the appradio unlocked app to mirror my phone across and found the interface appallingly laggy (the standard appradio had no apps i wanted to use as far as i could tell). Bluetooth i think i gave up on as i had to control track selection from my phone.  I've ended up using a Usb stick for music and that's not ideal as i have to browse by files and folders otherwise it plays the tracks in alphabetical order... For satnav i now just use Google maps on the phone in a spider holder in an air vent.

I've been considering changing the unit but if you know the secret to making it work with an android phone I'm all ears!

  5. Back on topic then, problems and costs...

My only issues are dodgy electrics in the passenger window, possibly caused by a leaking seal letting moisture into the door. I get round it by keeping the car under a cover which is a bit of a faff tbh but not a disaster.

Otherwise the engine is a toyota so more or less bomb proof. Servicing is extremely reasonable at my local independent lotus specialist. Insurance is within £20 of my Skoda family wagon. Tyres, I last paid £480 for my local fitter to put a set of yokohama v105 on the 18/19" wheels. Fuel I average 25 to the gallon mostly on country roads. Taking into account depreciation this is by far the cheapest motoring I've had...

Oh, and off-topic my 3 year old loves the car, she used to want to sit in it at every opportunity even before she was big enough for me to put a forward facing seat in the back.

We poured water in through the vent at the bottom of the glass, that's where it's getting in from. It's somehow getting from there through the boot lip into the boot. When Andy moved the join off centre it stopped almost all the ingress.

Pretty certain mine does the same to a lesser degree, I've been meaning to adjust the seal for a while but lost the urgency when I started putting a cover on the carr. I think for me it is parking slightly tail down that gives the water a path through to the boot.

  7. The pioneer unit (sph da120) installed in my S1 by the previous owner has the option to use the camera full time.  I presume the camera is powered off the reversing light or similar though as i only get a black screen until reverse is selected. The camera angle would be rubbish for a rear view mirror with a screen full of number plate,  i'd want it installed up in the engine cover slats on a 410...
