Dave just looking at the details of your car…what makes you think it’s a Dry Sump car? The advert says Wet Sump and the engine bay looks like a Wet Sump variant ie. without the tank on the right……

I’m sure yours is Wet Sump like mine (mine being the first one built) - pictured for ref and to show you how similar they are👍😉

Think you are thinking of a different car. Red Esprit Turbo similar to yours sold at auction with the private reg 'W 28'. Whereas the gentleman above has purchased the blue Esprit Turbo which displayed the reg 'WXJ 1' sold via a car dealership?

  2. Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of updates. The intention was to restore this car to its former glory and then sell it on but I think it may be a keeper!

It is nearly finished with the last major job being the paintwork. The paintwork is in excellent condition overall apart from small areas such as the front bumper and around the engine bay - car will be sent off for all these areas to be professionally sprayed.

Car also needs new carpets which we are thinking of doing black instead of the original burgundy/red.

It has been a struggle to find the ‘Lotus Esprit Turbo HC’ decals but hoping to have these custom made in red with gold outlining to match the red HC stripes.

Also on the look out for a Lotus Esprit s3 Sterling wheel in black to replace the wooden gloss steering wheel it currently has.

Finally, finding a replacement sunroof is still a problem as very very scarce. Would love to find an original to use on the car but we are also thinking about alternative options such as carbon sunroof or custom made glass sunroof.

  3. Hi all,

Recently purchased this Lotus Esprit Turbo HC D676 CBF. Was sold to us knowing that it had an insurance claim against it which was in the mid to late 90s. Rung DVLA and they no knowledge of it been a write off although HPI does bring up a claim against it. DVLA suggest that it may have been a minor claim so therefore wouldn't show on their system. Can any previous owners of this car shed any light on the history and insurance claim of this car?

Currently in the process of restoring it (Photos to follow).

    Many Thanks,

    Neil

Looking very clean Neil, you've done an amazing job there. Any issues found with the engine that required attention?

No issues found so far. Done all the usual checks such as new belts fitted, removed sump and checked all bearings which all looked good. Engine was stripped, cleaned, resprayed cam covers + plenum chamber. More photos will be added tomorrow as hoping to get engine back in car tomorrow

Great to see this car being resurrected! Saw the advert and very tempted by this car however being realistic it was beyond my capabilities and garage space to take on such a project. Really pleased to see the car in good hands and look forward to seeing progress on it. Please let me know if you decide to part with it once she's on the road !!!

    Hi,

We did buy it with the intention to restore and then sell on so will keep you updated with progress and let you know when we are ready for selling. Many thanks

Do I see the usual broken engine mount bolt in the top RHS hole, or is it an illusion?

Have had a look at this and it isn’t broken and has been helicoiled at some point
