Car thinks door is still open
esseye replied to Registered's topic in Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC/Other
Can't answer the fuse part, but in general I don't think you can prevent it without significantly disabling the vehicle's electronics. What you're after is here, but I don't know which MY vehicle you have. The microswitch is integrated into the latch and having had mine out, I do not see any way you could replace it without destroying the latch. -
Rev counter stopped working
esseye replied to NZ Baggies's topic in Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC/Other
There's a specific direct wire for the rev counter versus the can bus/etc for the rest of the instrument cluster data. Since you're only having issues with that, it might be worth investigating it. I noticed it in the circuit diagrams while trying to figure out issues I'm having with my instrument cluster. -
It seems that there was an issue in the earlier versions of the early latch mechanism that would cause the interior door pull lever to detach from the unit. I believe from reading the 2011/26 campaign (or rather, it doesn't seem to exist anymore but was superceded) and the parts resulting, it was all around correcting the attachment point between the interior door handle and the latch mechanism. You can see the document for it here https://c1042593.ssl.cf3.rackcdn.com/58664_1808_LSL594_Evora_door_latch_fitment_guide.pdf The latch described is definitely not the Inteva latch, but the older latch mechanism. The Inteva update was not a recall, and as far as anyone knows is not compatible with the older doors. I think at least once incompatibility is that the passenger side door has a lock/release mechanism that goes through a hole which is not present on the older doors. It would be an interesting experiment to see how compatible/incompatible they are, but I think nobody has wanted to put up the $ to test it out yet. Having had one apart, I don't think that's correct for these early latches. Maybe the Inteva latches the microswitch is accessible? The Inteva latches also had microswitch issues from all the discussions on Lotustalk/etc. So I don't think this particular problem was resolved either way. You can see the photos I took of the unit here: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f170/my-s-here-3rd-time-s-charm-416970/index2.html#post5691953 The microswitch seems to be inside the black plastic casing of the latch which is permanently attached to the mechanism as best I can tell. I don't know any way you could get inside of it without destroying the mechanism.

Am I expecting too much from a battery conditioner?
esseye replied to Mister_Tad's topic in Engine & Ancilliaries/Gearbox
What you're describing certainly seems unusual in just about every way. Given it's a 400 with 2000 miles, I'm guessing you're under warranty, and it'd be worth a chat with your service center. They might even warranty your battery at this point. It's possible there is an electrical fault which is causing a parasitic draw that is as heavy/heavier than your battery tender can handle. -
Central locking motor
esseye replied to Ryanmt's topic in Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC/Other
For anyone else who stumbles on this, it looks like this actuator is used by a few different cars. No idea if it can be made to work with the Evora or not. My passenger side latch has just stopped working, and is putting up a lot of resistance if I try to pull or push the pin manually. My driver's side had failed some time ago, and these actuators are welded shut, but from the feel of it, it feels like the gearing internally stripped out. Cheapest assembly I found that seems to have the same actuator: http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4671813&cc=1432767&jsn=12 -
That's maybe a better way to look at it. I was concerned I'd actually slow things down by not taking the time to find the right part, and dealing with the run-around (and the shop hours of them trying to fit the wrong part). Lotus USA actually got back to me very fast, they're searching for a part now. So maybe this whole frustration will be solved that way. If so, not entirely sure why their service centers can't do the same thing without me, but I'll take what I can get right now. Edit: Huge thanks to everyone. agentdr8 found an ebay UK link which gives a direct part cross-reference. http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f170/frustrated-toyota-parts-reference-431674/#post5600850

Usually here if you order parts from the local counter, they won't ship, you have to pick up (unless you're a business account with them). I can possibly if I order online, but there's a good chance due to fraud prevention these days they won't let me buy something and ship it to another state to a recipient that isn't me. I will try that though, but the second problem comes if the part is the wrong part, and getting it returned.

You're lucky it was only £1000! They quoted me $4550.00 for a replacement AC compressor. The Toyota part is $450.
-
Thanks sir - I had found the same, but hoping someone can confirm before I try it. I had to ship it to the closest dealer (in another state) where it sits now. So the only way to get the part is to order it, wait to ship to me, I ship to them, and then I'll have to wait for them to figure out if it's the right part. If I had the car here I could at least verify first or take the part to the Toyota parts counter and let them take a look at it for me.
-
That's my next step - I just shot a request off to them. I don't expect they'd be super fast to get back to me though for a general inquiry. Normally with any other brand I would expect the service center to do that.
-
No - I'd imagine the belt will be specific to the motor, as well as the idlers related to the supercharger pulley, but the tensioner I would expect is the same as on the front of any 2GR-FE. I might be wrong. Though that would just make it worse if the Lotus specific part isn't available.

Hi all, posting this over here as well (posted on LotusTalk here http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f170/frustrated-toyota-parts-reference-431674/) Does anyone know the proper engine cross-reference for a US MY 2011 Evora S? Car is presently at the dealer service center, and they think it needs a replacement serpentine belt tensioner. However, the part is apparently unavailable from Lotus, and they are unable (or unwilling) to source the Toyota part for me. They will apparently install it if I source it, but can offer no guidance on the right part and provide no warranty to their work as a result. I'm not really sure what the "official" view on this situation from Lotus is. I guess I'm just supposed to junk the car or something. Extremely frustrating.

5/6 failing is a common one with these right? There was a revised gearbox/gearset as a result of poor treatment work on the early S1s or something? I've only heard of people swapping out the entire gearbox though. In the UK maybe you can actually get the original Toyota part that we can't get here in the states?

Flickering instrument displays
esseye replied to Cypriot's topic in Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC/Other
Check your battery standing voltage. I had this happen when the audio installer was replacing my headunit. Batt standing voltage was <12v and I could notice a heavy flicker on those displays. I put it on a charger and back up to ~12.8v and the flicker went away.
