Hi folks,
Looks like we are going to have a decent turn out but still plenty room for other cars if you can put out the word to others and ask them to come along for track runs or static display.
Don’t worry if I have missed you off the list below, apologies, information was coming in from lots of different places.
Please add your name again on this page.
The passenger rides start at 2:00 pm and will run until about 4:00pm. If you are doing passenger rides, you will probably do it in 15 - 20 minute stints rather than a prolonged period so that everyone can get a chance on the track and everyone gets a chance to cool their breaks off!. There will be plenty opportunity for track time.
I would like to get everyone parked up in the static and track paddocks by 1:30pm at the latest so if you can be at GTM around 12:45 ~ 13:00 that will give us time to get set up and do the necessary sign offs. The museum will have some sandwiches and tea and coffee available in the control cabin for us as usual.
If you have your display cards from last year, please bring them along.... I ran out of A3 laminating covers.
Please enter the museum grounds by the east gate opposite the Vale Hotel.
The paddock area is at the back of the grandstand.
Any questions let me know and you can also reach me on 07775 701246.
Thanks again for your support.

And at the risk of COMPLETELY alienating Al and for those of you who have not a scooby what the cone story is all about. here for your viewing pleasure, the once a year airing of that infamous track run in 2010.
Mark, that's unfair..... you know it only happened because "the Lotus software is too clever" !

Not sure how long this is on for this weekend, but I'll need to leave by half two.
The track rides are down for 2 - 4 but they may start early if there are people waiting.
We will arrive a bit earlier than that to, get the cars parked up, fill in the track usage paperwork and have a chance to go round the museum.
I will post more details later today with directions etc.

Hi folks
Thanks for your support in getting this off the ground.
It looks like we will have a decent turn out of cars but still room for lots more.
Please ensure that you come along if you have committed to because we have told the museum that we will have enough cars to support the event.

Hi Ali
Event is going ahead.
Can you send me a few details for the show card for your car please (take a look here for typical examples https://www.facebook.com/events/110575246006977/157082808022887/ ) and a picture that you would like on it.
See you on Sunday

rather than it having the 2 'settings' of LOUD and VERY LOUD, it's now more like STUPIDLY LOUD and INSANELY MAD MENTAL INSTANT ASBO LOUD!
I think you will find that anyone who comes to see the cars would appreciate the later of the two settings

I might be out
I won't apologise yet as I'm going to do what I can to be there, but went for a run yesterday and come back with less exhaust than I set out with. Car is VERY loud, and obviously not running properly. And there was me thinking these stainless steel back sections should last forever..
LOUD is good Chris.
Hope you can make it.... wouldn't worry about the car being noisy
You can always do static display if you don't wand to go on the track.
-
Yep.... I would say you took the bait.
But I guess I better fess up before Brian or someone else does..... yes I did destroy the flywheel and clutch on the GT3 when I took Brian on at an Autotest
Just for the record as I'd hate the truth to get in the way of a good story..... I wasn't aware that Lotus hardware doesn't like it when your clutch has taken a bit of a pounding for an hour and then from a standing start, you sit with the car on the rev limiter and drop the clutch.

Having said that the Speedfest is a good bit faster and more intense as up against rival cars. One year I was against a V8 R8 an beat him.
Takes a bit of guts to go out in front of a crowd of people and do one of these pursuit trials and its great to see a Lotus come out on top. Got to take my hat off to you Al.
Don't worry Al, your secrets safe ... I would never let on that Brian beat you in the Elise the year before and that you took a traffic cone out!
Did I say that out loud?

Will get them over in a bit Gordon. Static definitely, not sure on track yet, do I need a helmet etc or is it a more gentle thing?
The track rides are simply to take members of the public out for a few laps round the small oval track.
Laps are not meant to be anything crazy. No overtaking and let faster cars drivers past.
we are taking everyone from kids sitting on their parents knee round at 20 mph to OAP's who have pitched up with their grandchildren and never expected to do anything like that in their life's.
Its basicaly a lotus cars fun day. People get to see some amazing cars up close and get their pictures taken beside them
Others want to go in the cars for a few laps.
We don't need crash helmets because it's not competition or anything close.
See the video at the top of the post to give you an idea of the event
Delighted you can make it either way and if you decide to have a go on the track you are more than welcome.
See you next Sunday.

Excellent Colin!
Can you send me some details on the car and a pic please.... unless you have done it before and I will still have them.
Static or track rides by the way?
-
Thanks Marc
OK That's it!
I have told GTM that we will go ahead so please try to gather as many additional cars as possible and if you are signed up then please don't drop out and leave us short.
Thanks for your support so far, look out for updates.
If I don't have your car details, please send me some info and a picture for the show cards... see attached examples

I think we are almost at the point of this being viable.
A few more and I think I will say we are going ahead.

Hi folks
This is a hard one to call. Last year we ended up with 20 track cars and about 15 static cars at the event and this year we are currently at about half that number.
With the event being such a success in previous years I am really keen to run it again but with such limited numbers I am concerned that we draw a good crowd but don't have the cars we need to support the event.
Because of our relationship with GTM, we are the only club that is allowed to use the track for an event without having to pay for it so it would be good to keep this going.
I really have to make a decision by Thursday evening at the very latest so please put feelers out to any other Lotus affiliated clubs to see I we can get the numbers up enough to make it viable.
Has anything come back from the Scottish Elise's yet?
This was a list from last year that was pulled together about a week before the event and quite a few additional cars came as well. Anyone here who hasn't put their name down like to join us again?

Thanks Colin, No cut off point for comming along if we are going to run the event but i need to get enough 100% confirmed cars by the end of the week so that i can make a decisionon whether its going ahead.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the latest responses but I still don’t have enough cars to run this successfully yet. Static cars are not too critical but I need to get about another 10 track cars.
Can anyone who has contacts with any of the affiliated groups, Scottish Elises, Caterham 7’s etc please ask for volunteers.
Thanks

Hi folks,
A quick update on the Lotus Day at Grampian Transport Museum.
This has been a great success in the past few years with more cars and more members of the public each year.
Last year we had in excess of 35 cars last year at the event (I think it was about 15 display cars and 20 track cars).
It was a great event last year and I would imagine there will be the same kind of turnout from the public … or more this year so i can’t see me managing to run it with less than 25 cars.
I will have to make a call this week on whether to cancel it or not so please sign up if you are coming along.
It is open to all Lotus cars and derivatives… Seven’s, VX220’s, Carleton’s etc
Thanks

Wasn't me although I do know of a yellow V8 owned by a gut who works for Centrica. I would guess its him.

Hi folks,
Following on from the success of previous Lotus Days at the Grampian Transport Museum, I have agreed that we will host the Lotus Day for the museum as an annual event which will become part of the official GTM events calendar.
The format will be as before, static display cars, access to the museum and I imagine GTM will be putting on a BBQ for us again .......and of course the highlight being passenger rides round the track, for the drivers and the public.
I would like to arrange a wide group of Lotus cars from the very early cars up to the latest cars.
Being the 50th anniversary of the Europa and the 40th anniversary of the Esprit, it would be nice to do something special for them….any thoughts?
Cars can be either static displays or take part in the track runs which seemed to be enjoyed by all the drivers last year.
It will be about a 2 hour session in the afternoon. Depending on the number of participants, we will swap cars out on the track as the drivers want to take a break... or the brakes need to take a break!
It has to be stressed that these are demonstration rides only and there is no racing under any circumstances due to safety risks with passengers and the public next to the track.
Likewise, the cars must be driven responsibly and well within the limits of both the car and driver.
There will be a maximum of about 8 cars on track at any time and I would like to get about 15 cars minimum.
For those traveling from further afield, it would be a good opportunity to arrange an evening event on the Saturday as well .... suggestions please?
Can I ask the relevant people in all the affiliated groups to circulate this round please but link back to this thread so I can get a list of numbers here rather than across various pages / forums.
Please add your car to the list including model, year and if you would like to take part in static or track and your name. I will be putting together the same display flyers as last year so please send a picture of your can and the relevant info:
Model
Owner
Year
Reg
Engine Config
Engine cc
Weight
Power
Top Speed
0-60 mph
Details and History of the car
I will start the ball rolling.
