  1. Hi Guys

The time has come again to buy some more garage bits...

Im looking at getting myself an engine crane. Does anyone have any experience in choosing one of these.

I want to get one with a long enough jib so that i can remove the engine from my esprits, both Stevens and Guiguaro.

i have seen a few on ebay and on the machine mart website. so claim to be "Long Reach".

Does anyone know how long the jib needs to be to be comfortably safe from the rear bumper?

    Hope someone can help.

  2. does anybody know where i can get an oil pressure sender for an S1. I am using one from another type of car and it is showing me a very low reading. I have tried bypassing the system with a mechanical gauge, and the reading is normal.

  3. The wolfies on Cos's car were amazing, you need to find out where he got them done. I've sent him a message asking him to pop onto this thread.

    :)

    Hi Bibs and Gordon

Yes, I had the wheels on my S1 diamond cut. It's done on a machine that is set with the profile settings of the wheel. The process is like a lathe.

The final finish is left bare, so very good quality wax must be used regularly. I use Rim Wax

  4. Out of curiosity, have there been any significant examples of automotive "wings" employing the aviation world's known drag reduction effect of "winglets?" Not just flat right angled end plates, but the real deal compound curve aircraft airfoil type wingtip extensions.

To some extent my Esprit makes use of this design, though in an inverted manner.

Yes, of course they did. You mean like this example!

  5. Hi guys

Some bloke on eBay is selling rubber gaskets for lotus 900 series engines. Seems like a good idea, but has anyone actually fitted any? He says in his description that the covers have to be straight.

I imagine that they should be made of a soft silicon if they are to make a seal between 2 cast surfaces.

  6. That's what I thought, but Steve told me he has fitted 100s and has never had a problem .

He told me to find out the thread size and try tapping the threads again! Seems very strange to me. No that useful really!

Desperately trying to find my old nuts in the garage! But they have vanished into thin air!

  7. Hi Guys

The esprit S1 restoration is coming along well, seeing as I haven't been over to London much.

The rear suspension is now all back together, part from the rear hub nuts.

I couldn't fint the original ones I took off, and I had a new pair I bought from SJS.

Problem is, when I went to fit them, they go on for the first thread, then they seem to get really tight. I can't for the life of me though understand why!

Has anyone else had this problem before?

  8. Hi Guys

Have ordered some Provenance Certificates for my brother Roddy's lotus esprit and éclat from Andy Graham. It's his Xmas present.

Very easy to do, just drop Andy a call, and he'll help you out.

Anyhow, thought I would also get one for my gt3. And Andy told me that it was first owned by Lotus, and that they used it in the London Motor Show at Earls Court in October 1997. It is a silver car.

I was hoping that someone might have a photo of the lotus stand back then. I think digital cameras were just starting back then, so might not be many photos. I would love to see a photo of it.

If you think you have some, please let me know.

    Cheers!

  9. Hi guys

I have looked into this mirror issue for the s1 for many years now. There are actually 2 types of pod mirrors that were fitted to the European S1.

Actually, both are shown on this thread.

There is the 6 sided pointy type that Chris has shown above, and the more bull nosed 4 sided type as fitted to Dave's car and the hillman.

    They are both correct although.

The 4 sided type was fitted to some europa's too. The first prototypes and show cars had the 4 sided bullnose type, and the famous photo of CABC sitting in an esprit in the London motor show in early 70's even had 2 bullnose mirrors.

First run production cars had the 6 sided types, as did the 007 esprit.

The little metal stem should also be black, although under the paint, it was actually chromed.

Boring stuff, but could be of some use to someone hopefully.

Good luck in getting the right one.
