  1. The timing belt on my 1991 Lotus Esprit broke and bent several of my valves. Does anyone know where I can get a new head for my Lotus? Does anyone know of a competent mechanic in the eastern half of the U.S.? I tried John Welch--that situation had a very unhappy ending! I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

  2. Thanks so much everyone! Now I can't wait for John to take my car and do all the repairs and upgrades! It sounds like my car will be in good hands! I appreciate everyone taking time to respond!
  3. The timing belt broke on my 1991 Lotus Esprit SE Turbo and since the engine is an interference engine, I am assured that there is valve damage and possibly valve guide damage and possibly piston damage. John Welch advertises that he is an expert on turbo upgrades so I am considering let him upgrade my turbo and replace my valves with larger valves and also to do other repairs the engine needs. Does anyone know of John Welch or his company, W. C. Engineering? I would feel more comfortable letting my car go with him if someone else is familiar with him.
  4. If you need a wiper blade replacement for your 1991 Lotus Esprit SE, do not believe that you HAVE to settle for a wiper blade replacement that is TOO NARROW for your wiper bow! I even ordered a wiper blade replacement from a LOTUS parts dealer and was sent one of these VERY narrow wiper blade refills for $17 plus shipping and handling!! After I received it and tried to install it, I called the LOTUS parts place. They advised me to BEND my original Lotus wiper bow in from the sides to fit this VERY narrow wiper blade refill!!!! I told them that I did not want to do that because I was afraid that it would end up damaging the windshield on my Lotus Esprit! So I started looking around and I found a wiper blade refill that is the proper width--it is a ANCO U-24R and I found it at Autozone. It was a tight fit to thread the wiper blade refill through the bow but it fit perfectly and tightly! I bought TWO wiper blade refills in the ONE package for about $5 (five dollars). Each one of these two wiper blade refills had a metal clip on it. I took the metal clips off of both and when I installed the wiper blade refill into my original Lotus wiper bow, I put BOTH clips to hold the wiper blade refill tightly in place on the wiper bow. I put one on EXACTLY AS THE INSTRUCTIONS SHOW--BE SURE TO LOOK AT FIGURE 1 OF THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS! Then I put the second metal clip at the very end of the total wiper (the free end which is at the passenger side when the wiper is OFF). Make sure that the center projection of each clip fits into the holes (small depressions) on the wiper blade refill! This beats paying the $120 I was quoted for a new Lotus wiper blade and bow! Good luck!
