And here it is a big old chuck of aluminium. Fits great and being that they had a rover bell housing down there they re jigged it to get the holes perfect and they are!! Even the dowels are perfect fit...
Even started to give the engine a splash of colour. Two coats of halfords high temp and it seems to make the world of difference. Will be doing much more to make it look pretty but its a start.
So plan of action for tomo...... Oh not car need to repair garage roof as its got e few leaks with all this rain were having.

Do you have a sister!! Ha ha.

Good luck with the project. Another engine transplant yippee i do like to see the conversions. Like the round rear lights this is also on my list and seeing your picture has made it an essential on my build. Much further down the line though.

I thought there was a lot more choice on wheels for the S4 though without all the hassle of hub conversions?? Dave Freemans car for instance??
-
So what happened to the moulds for the convertible esprit??

I always have the urge to ask if they will give me the car when im out and see things like this. I visited a customer once and there was a 355 sitting in the bushes!!!!! I thought it must be an MR2 replica but no it was real. Spoke to the person and said why is it sitting there. He said the engine mount broke and thats it!! When i asked him to sell he said "no i will get round to it one day" Think he had more money than sense. The car looked like it had already been there for ten years.... I dont know why people do it.

I think if all us blokes could get away with that sort of thing we would. I would love to sit and watch telly in doors while de greasing car bits but then it would be divorce!!

As i have discussed on here befor
Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Has it ever been considered to approach Lotus for assistance with Funding of the site? After all where keeping there cars alive on here and keeping the brands name out there.

Well done Simon a great bit of progress. Theres nothing like getting over a major hrdle which opens up a whole variety of work to get on with.
Any pictures. Would be interested in also seeing some shots of the damaged chassis and undershell. Your now putting me to shame as im concentrating on the engine conversion and not the restoration.
Keep up the good work. May be up your way near christmas to see friends in Handforth so may have to drop by if your free.

Expensive dealer parts prices are the reason we have the chinese!! They can rapid prototyp things same goes for turkey and then you get parts at a fraction of the cost. Even if they last half as long but are a quarter the price would you really be bothered about replacing them again and again provided its not every week...

I also have to agree that the only topics i am interested in are as the previouse Forum whish was totaly Esprit. At the same time i will not stop coming on here because of a change in format. No i am not interested in Evora, Elite etc so i do have to agree that if you could view new content on individual sections ie: Esprit it would be nice but then at the same time as i said im sure we will all get used to it.
Im guessing that in these communities you get a lot of people who dont like change much like the staff in my office "Ive been doing it that way for the past ten years" "Why fix it when its not broke"
One word should settle this and in this day and age you need to get used to it
"Evolution"
Now stop being a cave man and get with it!!!

Regarding sub contarct its similar with my private hire business. If i was to sub a job out to someone else i am still responsible for that job unless i have passed all billing etc to the other company. Only then does it not come under my responsibility but to do it that way i would have to also advise my customer of his new contacts etc. If i was to still bill the customer and be invoiced from the sub contractor for the work then i still own the job therfor i am still responsible. I think the police deffinatelly need to be involved on this one.

Great to see you on here. Feel free ti fill this up with any more pictures you have. Shame your not keeping it, is there another project lurking around the corner?
Have found these available through ebay in the US. They also do them with side entrance inlets. They fit straight onto the top of a Holley carb. Not to baddly priced either at $95 so that will go on my build list.

So wheres the update?? Pictures??

Good work Simon
The tanks look great. The foam pad on the bottom is chip foam and you can get it at any upholstery shop. I got a large enough sheet to do both tanks for

No problems Danny it looks great and hey the more information you can find on all these different conversions will aid anyone else who wants to do similar. Nothing like finiding all the answers in one place!!
Look forward to seeing the pictures.

Danny
They look great i think this is deffinattely the route i will be going down. I may even do mine in satin black though and bring the standard ears out slightly more reshaping them so they still run inline with the body. I think you hav ethe right idea tho. How do you find the heating and cooling issues on your car?
Was going to work on the car tonight but i havent been to the gym since i bought it so thought i better try and get some training in as well befor i waste away...After all i have plenty more rusty bolts to remove at the front of the car still!!
-
Okay i have spoken to the owner and he has given his permission for me to post these pictures. I will add his email details latter as out the office now so dont hav ethem to hand. Also im sure he will be happy with any feedback and to advise the car is also now up for sale.
As you can see a fair amount of engineering has gone into this and im sure it goes well to. Will let you know when i have also been to see the car to get some installation pictures for my project.
Enjoy.

Jason,
I am using the original flywheel as this has been done on the other cars i have seen befor with the V8 fitted.
Danny,
I plan to do the same with the windows except i will be mounting the intercoolers directly behind them for the airflow to run straight through via naca ducts.
I have plenty of pics of the pink car i will post them latter
Well the adapter plate is now at the machine shop. Being done by Southern GT40 in Southampton, shuld be bout week or two so plan to carry on cleaning the gearbox and engine till its ready.
-
Yes i have spoken to a company who will be making an extension to the shaft i have. I am also going to remove the shaft from the rover box and see what sort of length that is as i may be able to have it re machined to git the lotus box. Think it will be to short though.
-
So were off to the machine shop today to have it made. Hopefully wont take to long to turn it round so i can trial fit the engine for the first time. Adapter will be made from 25mm aluminium.

Hi Michael
I guess alot comes down o personalisation, reliability and chepness of parts. Also the need to tinker around with things. For me its something different to what i have done befor as its my first engine conversion. I ancied something diffeent and yes i do agree the car was goos as original but why leave it that way when you can make it different. Personnaly i never buy a car for resale value but only personal enjoyment hence the reason why i am not bothered by keeping it original.
I know alot of people have done the Rover conversion befor but then mine will be different from theirs as no conversion is the same. Hopefully when its completed it will be a great looking car with good alround performance and of course cheap parts!!
