Hi Patrick,
I disagree with DrDoom regarding the originality of the adjustable lower links. Your 105 H and my 301H are separated significantly by "build date" yet share several other features. For instance, does your Esprit have gel coat paint? Mine does. As I took delivery from the local Lotus dealer (1 1/2 miles from my house) in 1977, I'm sure no one had tampered with the suspension. The dealer gave me the fixed links when I picked up the car. Guess Lotus figured out the problem I suffered with the collapsing suspension. and gave the dealers a fix. Once I figured out the poorly insulated trailing arm bushing and installed a heat shield around the bush, I've had no problems since. Another interesting "defect" in the adjustable arm was the use of two identical Heim joints. If you release the lock nuts and turn the arm, nothing happens. I had to disconnect one, make an adjustment, then reconnect. You would have thought Lotus would have used a better design so you could just turn the arm!!! Oh well. As my car is probably the most original S1, if you run into any other problems, I'll do my best to help you. By the way, I'm probably 300 or so miles east of you. Have you spoken with AutoEurope about your car. Had mine repaired there twice. Also, have you spoken with Tony Krncevic regarding your car? He's probably owned and re-stored more S1's than anyone. Believe he's in Toledo, Ohio now.
