Problems with pop up light...

Hi guys,

I have a black S4 and Im based in Sydney, Australia.

One of my pop up lights has a problem with the motor and struggles to make it up. My mechanic has looked at it and tells me the motor needs to be replaced however he cant source one in Oz and to get one from the UK is going to cost me in excess of 300 GBP?

Does any one know of a cheaper option to get their hands on a motor?

Also, I previously owned an S4s in the UK and I miss the differenence in power compared to my new S4. I have read about the chips that would help this problem and I wondered if anyone knew where I could get my hands on a #2 Chip?

I appreciate any help you can give me :-)

I had problems with one of my motors. It was seizing pretty badly and if it wasn't used thru the week it just would'nt go up at all. Got fed up in the end and ripped it out and stripped it down. It was absolutely full of crud. Spent 20 mins removing, an hour cleaning / lubricating and around 40 mins to put back in - works a treat. Total cost - Zip !!! - Just the usual loss of blood.

Pic 1 shows the gearing end of the motor - no problems here.

Pic 2 Shows all the crud and grunge that had built up over the years.

Take my advice, strip it down, clean it out, reinstall and see if that fixes the problem. Could save you a lot of money.

It's supposed to be the same motor as the Pontiac Fiero and Trans Am. You might want to pull it and check it out first then go to a wrecking yard to compare it to the cars.

Calvin is right. Just go to the Fiero site suggested, and purchased the set for Lotus. He actually has the specific order selection for Lotus Esprits '88-2002. Same thing happened to my SE Esprit and the headlight kit from that site worked PERFECT.

I think Fieros and Trans Ams are just as rare in Australia as Esprits.

The advice I have heard from a guy who knows is that an SE (ie S4) can take the same chip as an S4s quite happily.... fit a filter, decent zorst and BOV to help ease the pressure and wear on the system but supposedly the 'amazing' headwork on the S4s isn't all that amazing and he doesn't seem to think there's any problem with running the smooth torque S4s chip.....
