Fitting a fan to the engine cover

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, little help identifying some wiring please,

Im adding a cooling fan to the engine cover, to move some heat form the engine bay.

The plan is when the key is in the second position, a replay will charge & turn the fan on/off.

My 89 car does not look like this manual. Most switched +V wires are white, but I want to identify "rear ignition relay"

Thanks in advance,

Cheers Darryl

Darryl, what year is your car? The diagram you've posted is for the delco controlled cars from '88 to '92 (ish). Yours looks like the carburettor one, so will have different wiring.

It's easy to test anyway, and there are several obvious points with ignition live, like the coil, amplifier and ignition relay (bottom second left).

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Thanks Filip,

yes it's a 89 carb model, thanks for the PDF,

I have tapped off the wiring to the fuel pump relay, this is supplied with the key in 2nd position.

Will complete it as soon as I buy a new, decent soldering iron....

I went with triple VA67-A101-83A - 330 cfm - SPAL  Fans, OD 6.5" (167mm), operated by Derale PN# 16769 Adjustable Mechanical Electric Fan Controller (from US eBay).

This fan controller features an adjustable turn-on temperature range between 32°F - 240°F with turn-off preset at 10°F below turn-on point. Uses  capillary tube and a probe that installs behind the steel turbo heat shield on the rear wall.  Maximum capacity: 16 amps = more than enough for 3 small fans.
