I had one on my 2009 LE (NA) from 2013 - 2014, because the independent dealer I bought it from gave me a reasonable deal. To be honest I was new to the world of Evora and was overly cautious. Nothing went wrong during that time, so it wasn't money well spent. Over on Pistonheads there are numerous threads about 3rd Party companies refusing to pay out on other marque vehicles. I just wouldn't feel comfortable if I took one out now. You'll probably find the most obvious things that may go wrong aren't covered.

I've got one on mine, that the previous owner had and transferred to me.  I've not had to use it, but from what I can tell, it covers labour costs at an unrealistic price.  For example, Snows as you know charge circa £90 an hour + VAT which I personally feel is extortionate.  The warranty covers £75 (off the top of my head), so I would need to cover the delta if I used snows for any work.

In terms of coverage / payout I can't comment on that as I've not claimed.

Not 100% sure but I've heard Silverstone may be able to provide a warranty as long as you service the car with them.

That’s interesting although not had a great experience in my couple of dealings with silver stone also they are a good 40 min drive still worth an enquiry I guess?

I'm going to get a quote to extend the warranty. I've had to claim during the first few months of ownership and it's more than paid for itself.

Who are you using for your warranty ? And did the process for claiming was smooth ?

Auto-protect. I think so, I made the initial call to report the problem and then Silverstone dealt with them after that.

I assume this is policy that Plenty refers to in the thread ?

i will ask Silverstone to provide a quote ?

As always with insurance policies it’s the fine print you need to be careful about !

I don't know, mine was from another dealer when I bought the car.

Yes, there are many things not covered.

check whats covered by reading the document..  you need to make sure you have full manufacture or specialist  service history, on the dot or within a month...  and undertaking exactly what the manufacture lists as a requirement...

stick to this  this, and  you will be fine for what is stipulated covered in documents..  and to the amounts listed

ive only good things to say about warranty direct.  having previously paid out no probs on a previous car in excess of 6k for an engine replacement..

check the labour rates too,

yes you get betterment applied to the parts at a % rate .so may not get 100% cost reimbursement (depends on the age of car)  but labour is 100%

when i set my evora up, they came out, photographed , inspected  & documented the car..   i know exactly whats covered and not..

touch wood tho not needed in two years...

Cheers Andy very insightful

here’s an extract from MotorEasy they say I can use a lotus garage and they will cover labour rate if up to £145 phr

“================================

n regards to the main difference between our warranties and others on the market are below:

Covered from day 1 for any sudden failure, overheating damage and consequential damage

We are the only warranty company that provide a free 20 point health check at the beginning of the policy

Wear and Tear cover is included

Any faults found at MOT and service we would look to repair under the warranty

The claims limit is up to the current value of the vehicle

There is no limit to the amount of claims you can make in any one yea

====================================

yes the actual wording of document is still be reviewed but the above extract provides a summary

they are asking £582 for the year which I can pay in 4 monthly instalments

If it looks too good to be true...

Yes possibly but that’s what they are saying and I can only go what the company are providing me ?

As for the cost it seems an average nothing to high or low but it always comes down to fine print in the cover ?

i will make further enquiries but my Evora gets serviced at Central lotus this Monday

What does the sales literature say is not included?

MotorEasy has only been around since 2017 and there aren't many reviews available of claims experiences, only application experiences.  This is worth a read however: https://www.hotukdeals.com/discussions/anyone-dealt-with-motoreasy-used-car-warranty-2619203.

I would specifically check the use of Lotus garages as from the limited amount I have read I have the impression you are obliged to use one of their authorised repairers which typically are Halfords Autocentre type outfits (the people behind MotorEasy are ex Halfords).

After doing the research and having think about it I am not too confident this company will say what they will do over the phone ?

there seems a trend that what the sales guy telling Doesn’t reflect the actual paperwork I receive ???

the policy document doesn’t say anything about using a lotus specialist and they seem to talk about Halford type of places which is fine for my company lease car but not my Evora which is am paying for with my blood sweat and tears !!!!

think will carry on looking or ask silverstone or central lotus for a price ?

incidently I came across a guy who owns Legacy Storm a garage for lotus cars in my area. He is ex lotus dealership garage until it closed a few years back now runs his own garage.

this place might be cheaper than the warranty assuming the repairs are of a smaller nature and nothing major in £000ks ?

Legacy storm not had a mass of feedback on MLOC forum only one person responded although a few others were positive but a few years old ?

The guy who owns the garage did knock on my door last week by coincidence and I spoke to him on phone and he seems genuine enough ?

I did (alot) of research into 3rd Party warranties when I had my AMG Merc.

The general consensus is this - either buy into the official manufacturer one, or don't bother and put cash away into your own little insurance pot. These companies will do whatever is possible to avoid paying out, especially when it comes to the time you *really* need them (engine failures, gearbox etc). See this thread on PH for example:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1773988

I will admit that as a previous serial Elise/Exige owner (which cost pennies to run/fix) I was concerned over the costs of the Evora - heck, there was a £1500 bill settled just before I collected the car - but for me, the maths of using specialists and my own insurance pot should potentially work out cheaper than main dealer servicing and their proper warranty....I hope....

FYI but Lotus don’t offer a ‘manufacturer backed’ aftermarket warranty or the facility to extend the manufacturer’s warranty.

Hopefully this will change under Geely.

I had a warranty from Auto Protect on car bought from a main dealer.

Needed to claim and they refused to pay out. In the end I referred to matter to the FSA who investigated and decided in my favour....but it took well over 6 months to eventually get resolved.

Read the small print in the warranty and make sure you do everything it says (service dates, reporting the fault etc)

construction and property consultants : My company

That's actually a really good point and one I hadn't considered before.  Would agree this needs bringing into line with Porsche/McLaren
