I’m looking to play around a little with the adjustable dampers on the 430 Cup.

1 how do I unlock the front CF cover. I was shown in September and can’t remember if there was a latch near the windscreen to unlock first.

2 what are the settings I should be looking for for road use and latterly track use. Is it obvious with markings on the barrel?

3 the dampers in the engine bay look like a bastard to reach. Is there a trick to getting to them.

Thanks.

1. There's a latch in the middle which you slide to the side, then the sides just pull up and the whole thing comes out.

2. What are you trying to do to the car?  I suggest starting by making sure it's on the factory settings as per the settings.

3. They're not actually that difficult to reach, just stand by the side of the car and lean in and play with them.

Andy,

I have experimented  with both the high and low and rebound settings for a few circuits on my 430. Happy to share ?

The high/low settings for the  rear are a little tricky but I use my left hand for nesrside and right hand for offside, takes a bit of getting used to but the knobs become easier with use. I tend to work from soft to hard as easier then fully hardening to start.

Rebound settings are easy to adjust but you will need to remove wheels to get at unless you can get under the car.

I'm curious about this as well:

- do we need a special tool for the adjustments or can i just rotate by hand?

- manual says 9 clicks for example, does that mean i will actually hear a click click sound while rotating the dampers or compression setting?

- manual has the default factory settings, where can i find track settings or do i just put everything in hard position?

@mark248am,

you can do this by hand, no tools needed;

you will "feel" the clicks;

track setting are individual and track-specific, the best is to make gradual adjustments to one parameter only and assess the changes vs your preferences and goals. Certainly do not "put everything into hard"

Okay. I’ll have a look at the manual and have a play.

My question was based on the fact that I tried the courtesy 410 a number of weeks ago and it felt totally different to my car on the road and could hear the air type noise when I hit a bump or uneven road in the 410 unlike mine

My car seemed more harsh when I got it back. Not uncomfortably so though.

I’m also planning on a good few days at Knockhill when the weather improves so wanted to get my head round the settings before getting there.

So there are two bits to adjust? In the boot and front panel being one and with wheels removed two?

note to self. Read the manual.

If you were local I’d pop round and show you , but it’s all really easy once tried a few times . 2 compression knobs on upper damper for high and low and a single knob on lower for the rebound

There are also the adjustable ARB’s ( anti roll bars ) but best leave them alone

I think easiest is leave the rebound alone also initially as means removing wheels. just have a play around with the high and low compression knobs at each corner. Only takes a few minutes to adjust all and you can have a drive and then pull over and perhaps adjust by 4 click margins to see the difference

you’ll be surprised on Road how much difference there is on a softer setting to a harder one.

As mentioned track settings are more personal to the driver and need a bit of experimenting with

Just make sure when you put the cover back, you click it twice back into place in the middle. If it's not back on properly, the sides may "pop" out when on speed.

You don’t need to remove rear wheels to adjust rebound.  Just place your hand through wheel spokes , just below brake caliper and you should be able to feel around for dial.  Done mine plenty of times this way, although you will end up with black hands from brake dust ;)

Re front access panel I struggled to get the thing locked down properly the first few times.  Dealer advised to place one hand flat over the area of latch and then with other fist a small whack onto your other hand,  Works a treat  without risking damaging the panel

re track settings :-

Exactly what Oakmere told me to do. Sometimes it feels as if the panel is locked, but actually isn't far enough down.

cheers
