SSC induction kit - who has heard one?

I’m on the hunt for more induction noise on my V6 although options seem limited. I’m thinking of the SSC kit for about £500. Since there isn’t a huge amount of online chat about them, have any of you guys bought one / heard one?

Is it much louder than standard? What type of sound does it give? Increased charger whine or traditional induction “roar”?

Cheers, G.

@Gordon S I've just pinged you a message back. For everyone else... The SSC intake is the same as the CupR intake (which I have) the main difference being SSC is metal vs carbon intake pipe - So not much difference in reality. My word of caution is on the HKS filter unit, I've mentioned before my concerns over its filtering ability, but after seeing build up on my throttle body I have no decided to ditch the current setup and go back to OEM air box!

I love my intake, the noise, the added throttle response improvement, but the HKS filter is just too dirty for it to remain on my car.

That said I won't be staying OEM for long and already working on a solution which I hope to share more on over the next month if folks can wait :)

I have had one fitted for a couple of years with no issues and i noticed a definite improvement in throttle response. I change the filter every couple of thousand miles and have had no issues.

Anyone running the TVS1900 setup will also have this setup and that superchargre will be sucking harder than the stock one.

i may be wrong but i believe all the Cup Rs have that filter too.

The sound is very similar to the supercharged 1.8 unit found in the older exiges and i think it sounds fantastic.

The sound difference is not big, unless you open the window .. as mentioned, the throttle response is the main improvement.

Thats odd that you found that. i noticed a very significant change in sound (for the better) even with windows up.

Well ... I've given you my feedback and I won't be putting the HKS back on my car, neither can I recommend any solution with the HKS filter im afraid.

Go check your throttle bodies if your running the HKS filter they may need a very good clean!

I have had a few Jap cars and its well known that the HKS filters are 'dirty' - just to support Imran's point. I've always removed them for something else. Paper Filters have always offered the best filtration, foam the worst in my experiance.

I have the HKS as part of my TVS1900 as red viper says above. There is significantly more induction noise and SC whine but only after about 3.5K revs, under this everything is close to normal, nothing that won't put a smile on your face.

personally I have no problem with the HKS, as with any filter the less you clean it the more dirt particles will be pressed through the filter as differential pressures build. As long as you clean it regularly it will treat you well, Performance car parts normally do take more maintenance.

Got a link Imran?

thanks

Here you go:

http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/index.html

I had read it previous but was told HKS following this and other tests (Option Magasine also did one in JP) they had revised their design and added additional layers. Hence why I went down the HKS route BUT after seeing my throttle body of late as I said... I ain’t going back!

Interesting test.

A few months back I contacted a friend in motorsport engineering, to put together a system with the Alu tubing (a la SSC and ITG box/filter. We never got round to fabrication but might look into it again. But will probably just go with the chargecooled  TVS1900 setup.

That article is 20 years old. I don’t understand why is says the HKS is wet either.
