Ignition timing - Initial setting

Hi All, bit of ressurance or adjustment advice needed please...

just setting up the dizzy per service notes, having checked pulley alignment. The bible says the rotor cutout should be at 8 oclock looking at it , mine is about the 5:30 mark, but the reluctor is sitting in the correct position (p8 emd). Mine's an s3 na without vac which isnt specifically shown in the bible.

Any ideas?  Need I be worried?

Would just like to get this right before I stick the carbs back on...thx in advance

Doesn't really matter as long as you can get the timing to spec.  (and plug leads reflect the actual position)  However, you can validate its at (or not) the recommended position by checking the alignment of the timing dot on aux pulley.  (dot should be inline with centre of crankshaft pullet and aux pulley) Should be doable with an inspection mirror

Thanks Steve,

Aux dot checked and confirmed as correct before I posted...it  was just that discrepancy from the manual that had me suspicious.

Did the electrical tests across the eye of the lumenition module and all seems ok there.

Now fires #1 spark at this position

just the accelerator pump settings (using dave33's guide) to check and the carbs can go back on

If pulley is aligned then all is in order - only 1 position possible for rotor  (assuming Aux pulley has key fitted!).   I posted on setting up accelerator pumps last year  (did it by measuring fuel expelled over fixed number of strokes).  Bit of a faff but got there in the end..
