S3 Turbo Esprit – Dry sump, calypso red. Absolutely complete.

Brief history:

  • Bought by me in May 2009 with a blown engine – was up and running on the road at that time.
  • Engine totally rebuilt with new parts over the next 4 years. New head with all new parts supplied by PNM.
  • New pistons and liners supplied by PNM, Engine rebuilt with new gaskets.
  • Wastegate rebuilt by PNM, new turbocharger fitted.
  • New cast manifold (ordered through TLF) and stainless turbo and exhaust pipe fitted.
  • New radiator and oil cooler fitted.
  • Lots of new fixings and other parts fitted.

Chassis is excellent, body and interior is fair to reasonable. Window frames are excellent (although colour coded red) and it has the 4 stud split rim compomotive wheels.

The pictures were taken when I collected the car in 2009.

The car was started in 2014 (I think!) and it ran perfectly but I noticed an oil mist at the front of the engine (front crank oilseal not fitted correctly?) so turned the engine off immediately and it has remained in the garage since.

Unfortunately I have recently lost my garage storage and I can’t see when I will have the time to restart the project.

Some history of the car is available prior to my purchase

A complete 1984 S3 Turbo engine (wet sump) and also a 1985 complete half engine, inc flywheel are also for sale (not inc in advertised price).

It would be good to sell the car and the engines to an Esprit Enthusiast who could finish the project off hence I have listed it here before advertising elsewhere.

I will be sad to see her go but happy to see her back on the road.

I am open to reasonable offers and although aware of their potential worth I am also realistic of the time and money that needs investing to get them up to scratch.

I also have a very nice Lotus Excel in Calypso Red for sale, which appears in the final image.

Thanks for looking

Hi there

Yep it is me that has it for sale - sadly I'm not able to finish it for a number of reasons.

I sincerely hope it goes to an Esprit enthusiast - I am going to leave it on here for a week before advertising elsewhere.

Cheers

Sorry to hear you are selling Simon,   But yes projects can need plenty  of time and mooney thrown at them, so sometimes you have to know when to put other priorities first :(

Hopefully you can  another lotus model soon to slip into which will not involve any work :)

Best of luck with the sale. i am sure one of the folks on here will take it of your hands hopefully, fair weather restorers will be getting their garage spaces ready this time of year also
