Recommendation for oil filter brand

Recommended Posts

I have found various options for the filter such as Mobil 1, Fram, K&N, NAPA and "compatibles" with no name (that I would avoid!)

My question is, is there one that is "best"?

or failing that which are "bad"

my oil looks like new, but I may give it a change anyway.

Many thanks!

I believe that you can still get Lotus oil filters.

I'm assuming for a V8, for which the part number is C907E6000W

Listed on Deroure.com and sjsportscars.co.uk.

probably the best you can buy :)

It's getting there......

Alays buy the lotus oil filter unless you want an early engine rebuild on the cards,  the non genuine filters do not have the non return valve  fitted, so you get oil starvation on start up.

I am not saying this is the case with all non lotus filters, but for the extra few quid, buy the lotus one from SJ Sportscars or such like, it will save you money in the long run !   Few extra pounds on an oil filter or an engine rebuild ?  i know which one i would choose :)

Would you happen to know whet the "W" signifies at the end?

I'm not entirely sure however the part quoted above replaced C907E6000F in 1995. I'm not sure where the N version fits in. Its been the same part number for the Esprit since the S3 I believe (A907E6000W is listed for the S3 and Turbo Esprit from 1980).

I know how I would spend my money. :)

From the research I have done, most of them do have the non return valve, and I gather Mann and Fram are at least two that do have them. From what I have read, Mann is OE on a lot of German cars, and has the non-return valve, and is constructed well. Would be interesting to know what source for example SJ or PNM use for their replacement filters.
