Recommended Posts

ok........so the car is now mechanically there and Ive put it back together

its going for paint.......

to that end what do folk reckon.............it has an original S1 spoiler fitted....but Ive heard many say that I should fit an S2 spoiler.......

and as its going for paint Id get this done at the same time.....so should I?.......fit the s2 spoiler

the next thing is that Im putting my spare refurbished interior in the car......so Im going to do the headlining at the same time........

to that end...........Im thinking after paint........anyone done this.....and how easy is it........

Ive done my old elans before and its a jigsaw where you put things in in order.......

any thoughts?...pointers?.......experiences?.......

anything mush appreciated

thanks

Unless you already have one - I've heard that S2 spoilers are currently unavailable from Lotus bits.

Headlinging can be done after paint, most people do. The most innovative solution I have seen is John"theNut"'s idea of using a false ceiling taken from an MPV and cutting rectangles which get held up by the cant rails. Means it will never fall down again.

Paint on glassfibre is specialised. My cars currently looking a bit tired and I have some cracks that will require a repair. I'm looking at wrapping it yellow. I've been quoted £1400 for a yellow wrap.

thanks Dunc

yes I have a spoiler.........

sounds interesting way of doing the headlining........I'll go and check out that route

paint........Ive had several of my old lotus painted..........Im using the same guy......

I though about a wrap.......but the 'wrappers' have all said they want a perfect surface to wrap to.........

in my case thatd mean Id need to get it painted to get it wrapped........

Can you share the approximate cost of respray, and if you leave your cars outside in the frost?

Down here, the going rate for someone good to paint a glassfibre car seems to be 5-7K, which is more than I'm willing to commit at present hence my thoughts on wrapping it. I can repair it and flatten it myself, but worry about moisture in paint if I spray it. The plastic bits on my motorbike are also bubbling 2-3 years after they were done - it lives outside in the frost..

frost........no such luck.......

I live at the top of an 'ill in the peak district........we get snow all year round........lol

the respray is £3k.....I was quoted £2k min for a wrap....and the wrap is only good for 3 years.....or at least that's the guarantee on the wrap film

my cars live in and out of the garage in turn...depending on what Im building....rebuilding.......playing with

have you tried option one.........theyre suppose to be bob on and reasonable...

Option 1 Sports Cars
Unit 5
Shaw Lane Industrial Estate
Stoke Prior
Bromsgrove
Worcestershire

how far south are you?.......

Depends on what you want the car to be; period original - go for the S1 spoiler; for a more integrated look, go for the S2 one. Oliver Winterbottom has a good tale about the S1 spoiler so there is some amusing history there!

I paid £4.5k in the Midlands. From the sounds of it, there's a fairly linear relationship with distance from London!

I used foam backed headlining and it's an easy job. Removing the cant rails is a small job if you want to replace it since you have the experience of doing all the mechanicals.

Personally though I would stick with the S1 spoiler. Looks car cleaner in my opinion .

I would like period.......but I'm going to be getting some after market alloys due to the fact that I can't find any decent tyres........

Unless someone knows a decent true that's rated for grip and stability and noise

I have a combination of Nankang NS2s and Toursports fitted. NS2s are available currently. They feel absolutely fine to me and are almost certainly far better than the Goodyears specified in the day as tyre technology has moved well ahead in the intervening years! And the Elite really should have those GKN Turbine wheels fitted...
