V8 Engine Re-builds ?

Recommended Posts

Hi there Folks...

Just joined your Forum Site this morning...

I was an Esprit owner (1989 Turbo) but that had to go due to house purchase a couple of years ago... I still however still have a huge passion for these cars and and currently searching for a good V8.

I had a couple of issues with my 89 Turbo, but all resolvable. However I am seeing so many V8 adds saying that Engines have been re-built by Lotus.

There seems to be a bit of a pattern of around the 20k miles mark from what I can see.

Do any of you know why, what, when etc etc this is...

I have looked at some of the other posts on your Forum and see that Liners seem to have been a problem for some of the earlier V8's but am assuming those problems were all resolved... So why still the Engine Rebuilds ?

Thanks in advance for any clues or advice

Greig ;)

Thanks Kato...

I had not read that article and I think that answers my concerns perfectly...

How would you (or anyone else) feel about buying a car that has had this work carried out already by Lotus ? The article you supplied would imply that all should be ok Post the Liner work being carried out !!!

Any comments welcome

Thanks again

Greig ;)

Do these problems also occur in the Sport 350?

Depends on the year - the Sport 350 was made between 1999 and 2000. Chances are that all the 42 UK sport 350's have been done.

If two identical cars came up for sale but one had a rebuild due to liner sealing issues, then I'd probably take that one. It might be an idea to take the rebuild as a positive feature of your perspective purchase.

Err ... it depends on the engine number. If the engine number is less than 30600, it may have the problems. 30600 onwards should be ok. Mine is car #43 and the engine number is greater than 30600 ...
