Reversing Camera stops working after wash

Hi,

On the last two occasions, my reversing camera has stopped working after washing the car. The first time it recovered after one day; but this second time it’s taking longer. 

The symptoms are I just get a black screen when reverse is selected. It’s a MY2011 NA with a Alpine INE-W920R.

Anyone else seen this, or have any ideas?

Are you getting any of the reversing boundary lines on the screen? If you are then it is the camera. If not, possibly the camera is not connecting to the head unit or the head unit is the problem. But you say it does come back.

That would seem to point to water ingress in the camera.

Mine had done this before I bought it and eventually it wouldn’t come back at all. It seems that the housing seals aren’t perfect.

Replacing the camera was one of my first jobs on the car.

Yes i’m pretty sure that you need a new camera. They’ve failed on many of the earlier cars, my old LE included.

Thanks for all the replies. I don’t get anything on the display, but it does go black (so is picking up the selection of reverse).

I’ve previously had the display get interference, and was surprised not to get the guidelines. 

So the pure black was a mystery, as would point to a connection problem.

Mine has started to play up this week as well. Sometimes it works ok but others I just get a dark distorted image. Likely to be the camera?  

Bit it of a pain as  reversing is tricky without the camera.
