Hi  my lotus elite 501 won't idle and when  I rev it drops back slowly can tel what the problem is please .

Is the car in regular use? Has the issue suddenly appeared? Have the carbs been apart recently?

Assuming the linkage is free, revs slow to return to idle is indicative of an air leak, or possibly completely out of balance.   Not idling could possibly be fouled idle jets (or not...),which can easily be checked by removing the small cover on top of the carbs, which gives access to the idle and main jets.

Hi thank you very much for all your help, i'v had someone look and it looks like it is as mentioned blocked idle jets and vacuum leak.

Is it easy to remove the jets to check for blockages? Or is this a carb strip down and rebuild? 

My car has developed a mahoosive misfire and I don’t know where to start looking.

very easy, 4 bolts to take top off. Jets just screw out. Disconnect fuel hose first and you may want to disconnect the choke wire. All pretty quick to do.

timing is critical too of course.
