Indicator switch

Can't indicate left, to be more precise. I'm pretty sure it's the switch because if I pull the stalk down enough it will indicate but not for long. Hazards work fine too.

So, does anyone know what car it's from (SJ want over

If you do go down the lines of taking it appart, BE VERY CAREFULL!!!!!!

They are usually full of loads of little springs and contacts and other fiddly stuff, when you open the casing, TWONG, everything goes everywhere!! Pain in the arse to put back togeather, if you can find all the bits! :D

Sorry can't help you with the original supplier though. Good luck!

Dave, it's the long horrid stalk type, which do the light flash and full beam, so 4 switches in all (or 3 with the full beam on spring return).

Simon, you're right about talking it apart! It's probably constructed in such a way that it'll never go back together.

See what I can do this weekend.

If it's the same as the S4 don't bother trying to fix it. Local Holden (Vauxall/Opel for you) has it. Part #GM09181010 for a stupendous AUD $24.46.

He he, it's been over a year since I last posted about this, and since I garaged the car shortly after, I kinda forgot about it until checking the car over for MOT time.

Just been to my local VX/Opel garage, the indicator/horn/flash switch I'm looking for is definetely NOT Part #GM09181010, that looked completely different.

Does anyone know of the equivalent supplier of this item? I'm finally going to take it out later today and check it over, I may get the part number from it.

I might be able to service it, perhaps not.

Hi Alan - LOOKS like an 80's BL part, but dunno which one.

Any chance it's a Toyota part? My 1987 Exel had a Toyota Camry Indicator Stalk which I changed as the windscreen washer button was knackered. A Toyota stalk was an exact match but had no multiplug connector on the end simply bare wires. However I was able to quickly extract the wires out of the original stalk connector using a small thin screwdriver, and then put the old multi plug onto the new stalk - an hours work.

Mat

Post #8 on this thread any help?

Edit - But on the other hand Espritfactfile parts x-ref guide suggests British Leyland origin. Specifically "Turn Signal/Wiper Arm - British Leyland/Lucas - From Austin Marinas, Land Rover series 3 - Lucas 35378B 3488 LH Stalk,35379A 4488 RH Stalk (wiper)"

Still no luck in identifying it, I should have taken a pic of it while I had the cowling off. It's a pretty antiquated thing, not enclosed and the wires hard-crimped to the posts.

While messing around with it I lost signalling to the right as well as the left! I only had 7.5V going to the bank of indicators that was being switched at that time. The volt drop was being caused by a bad wire on the switched feed, not enough to complete the circuit. Cleaned it up and soldered on, no problems!

I like cheap problems, they make a change on the Lotus

Quick tip - if your indicator stalk is feeling a bit rough or sticky, there are 'guide' pins that if you clean and slightly grease the areas they slide on, it improves the action imo.

I'll post pics if anyones interested.

Just to try and help conclude this thread with the identification of the indicator stalk, take a look at the following eBay link:

Basically the stalks were British Leyland made and were in cars like the Mini and Maxi of the 70's & 80's.

Can't find a part number at the moment but you should be able to find these at the scrappies quite easily. Whether they'll work or not is another matter

EDIT - Thought I'd post the pic here as well for future identification when the eBay auction has disappeared:

Even that one's different Steve. The one in the pic has the wiper and stuff as one unit, where as on my 90SE they are two separate units which clamp together. I was too busy getting the car ready for it's MOT to get any pictures taken, I'll try tomorrow!
