Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys ,

New to the forum so ........... HI !

Just picked up a 2011 Evora S with a Larini Sports exhaust . I like it as loud as possible and hear that a plack exhaust is the best ( loudest , on a straight pipe ) . Anyone heard the difference in the two ? Cheers guys

I've not heard one, but there is a YouTube video of someone in America having fitted it.  Its loud.  I've got a 2bular non-valved silencer / backbox fitted and I have to say its plenty loud enough, at low speeds its a little bit like a sports motorbike and I would say it just borders on the socially acceptable side of things, until you rev it out at least, then it gets a lot of attention!

@Green beret Do you know if you are running a 3rd cat in your system or not?

There is one cat converter on each bank of the exhaust manifold as standard and also a 3rd cat just before the back box.  You can pass UK emissions and MOT test with just the manifold cats or the 3rd cat.  Replacing the 3rd cat with a straight pipe is simpler and cheaper to do compared to replacing the exhaust manifolds so is quite a common mod.

3rd cat removal definitely makes the car sound louder and you hear more pops and bangs on the overrun and the low rev burble of the engine is more noticeable too compared to car running all cats.

My car is currently running with Larini headers and mid section connected to the Lotus sports back box and temporarily running with zero cats.  Makes a fantastic noise and very loud bangs when lifting the throttle also has small flames popping out the back.  On track day noise metering it reaches 101/102db at 4500rpm.   Standard system with 3rd cat delete I had previously had a reading of 98db.  Gonna be a sad day getting a sports cat put in and retune to prevent flames from damaging the cat but need the car to be road legal.

Interesting Dean ,

My Larini is quite loud but after my last ride a v8 5.7 Cobra it seems tame ( as anything would I guess ) . Have you any idea if your set up is louder than the Larini , what made you chose 2bular ?

I can see why you need more noise from the V6 then, that's quite the noisy engine in the Corvette.  The Evora will have it licked for steering and handling, as yuo've probably already discovered!

So why did I choose 2Bular?  I spent some time researching what was available, vides on YouTube do fail to do any of them justice I think, however one stood out to me with having had a full exhaust change over to 2bular.  I spoke to a few people who had had one and they all commented on the high quality of the product as well as being extremely pleased with the result.  As I understand it, 2Bular are more bespoke - custom made to order most of the time.  I didn't fit it myself as I was also having new oil cooler and pipes fitted at the same time - the chap that did the work commented on how impressed he was with the quality.  Its a much more efficient design than the standard unit, much less pipe work.

The only downsides to note are that comms with Jim are a bit confusing, and I'm aware some people have had to wait a while for their order; however mine arrived 'only' two weeks after he said it would 🤣🤣

Now that I've driven a few hundred miles with it fitted, I can tell its starting to bed in and the noise as it goes up the rev range is just superb - a proper V6, it really changes and sings from 3500/4000 rpm.  At low speeds it is much more 'basy' and 'burbley' than the standard exhaust (I have an MY2012 so the 3rd CAT isn't present - as a MY2011 you're likely to have one fitted, assuming it hasn't already been removed by previous owners - which is a distinct possibilty).  I would also say that without the valve, cruising on the motorway in 6th at 60mph is a little droney, but at 70mph its less reduced.  The same is true at town speeds - 30mph in 4th (so stick with 3rd).  I'm getting used to it and personally, like it; I think its more noticeable to me as my main car is a Lexus which damn nearly silent!

Performance wise, it does feel marginally faster, certainly seems to rev more freely....lastly, I just love the 100mm carbon tips over the previous oval on the standard setup.

I hope this helps 🙂

Thank you guys .

Was new to the car and had not opened the valve ! Its certainly loud enough , sounds great to be fair . In sports mode she really pops and burbles on downshift which makes the car for me .

Appreciate your time and posts , Tony
