V8 seats in a 88?

Recommended Posts

I can fit them in my 1989 SE, albeit tight sideways. Later center consoles were a bit more narrow. You may have to drill new holes in the body, or make adaptors.

With the standard 1988 seats, try to unbolt them and remove the rising spacer wings fitted as standard, if you haven't done so already.

I ended up fitting Sport300 seats which clampsme very well, lowers a lot, and is tilt'able through some bolt holes in the sides of the seats, so gained legroom, headroom, far better support and more than enough legroom. I am 1,88 meter.

Kind regards,

jacques

Have you considered Elise seats?  they require some custom mounting but they are pretty comfy and provide lots of room and support.  Unfortunately expensive.

You can buy un-finished Sport 300 seats from one of the vendors and have them covered.  That's on my long list.

The floorpan was changed in 1993 1/2, to position the seats lower.

So, just changing the seats may not buy you the room you anticipate. (Everyone's bodies are different, some have long legs, some have long torsos)

Several owners have simply removed the seat rails and/or installed a smaller steering wheel.

Removed the seat runner and riser washers. Drilled some new holes in the floor, about 3 inches behind the factory ones and bolted the seat directly to the floor. Back of seat is right up against the rear bulkhead.  Result!.  My knees no longer get jammed up under the dashboard, I can extend my right leg all the way straight into the footwell, and I can now see all the gauges better. Have to guess speeds over 65 mph.  Cheap fix and keeps the car original. Actually makes for a rather comfortable driving position. I’m 6’2” and long in the leg.

I can testify that using Sport300 seats vertainly gives more leg and headroom. And clamps you real tight in corners.

Pure fun.

Other than that, removing the risers (thick washers) under the standard seats, certainly also helps.

Ps: I have a fiber roof, not a glass roof.

Cheers,

Jacques
