Clunk when turning - Evora S

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Had a good search but I can't see anything that quite matches my symptoms, when turning at low speed I get quite a loud clunk from the front offside.  Occasionally get it over bumps but mostly caused when turning.

The obvious cause is the ARB bushes but with that I would expect the clunking to be triggered by bumps too. Other thoughts would be drop links (but same as ARB). Tie rod ends seem to be a viable cause, or where the rods connect to the rack (or even the rack itself). Car just passed its MOT with no advisories so I would assume nothing is visibly loose (although these things don't always get picked up)

Anyone had similar symptoms that they cured?

On an mot ramp - lots of things are still under tension. They should jack the car up at the front to remove the tension and reload at everything. Me thinks it may be a case of it’s just gone bad or he simply missed it.  It might also not have been bad enough to fail.

get someone to look specifically at the arb and drop links again

Thanks Bibs. No it's not that. I've experienced that before. It's a clunk moving from off centre and comes quite quickly after turning the wheel.

I have had a Google and I can find lots on clunking over bumps but none on turning

Sounds similar to the drop links on my S1. Picked up by MOT (Halfords use shaker plates so the car stays under full load during testing, which is why I use them for MOTs) but the main dealer couldn’t identify.

Blessed with the competence to be a slave to the incapable.

Currently without a Lotus, Evora 400 Hethel Edition in Racing Green with Red leather and 2010 Evora N/A in Laser Blue and 1983 Lotus Excel LC Narrow body in Ice Blue all sadly gone.

Thanks Colin, I have preemptively order some poly ARB bushes and I might as well order some droplinks too.  sooner or later I will need them.

Anyone recommend an online store to buy replacements? Thanks all,

Daniel
