380mph Lotus Esprit - Yes Ive done it!

Today a lotus that you have all seen photos of on here that I posted of my other lotus has today done over 380mph. I now claim to have the fastest lotus in the world!

My mate neil is a flys planes for a living and I meet him every 4th day of the week, well last week I gave him my toy lotus replica of my real one and asked him to take it up with him.

My lotus esprit has been to spain and back in under 6 hours! AND is the fastest lotus recorded to date

I thank you, oh and by the way it was a competition that I was going to do but im the winner already, you lose, im the winner, im the winner

I'll be in New York in two months... but the real question is not the terminal velocity, it's what the odds will be of crashing into a human head

OK..... What it is right; you need to befriend a night-watchman and the ESB.. after a month or so of establishing your friendship, take advantage of it by getting him a bit drunk and selling him on the idea of finding out how fast an A.A Esprit will go when chucked from the top.

You also need to acquire contacts in a batting cage, so you can pinch their radar equipment for the evening and find out what speed it will be going just before it hits the floor, shatters into several thousand tiny pieces and takes out a couple of feet of pavement (that's sidewalk to you! )

Righty ho....

Off you go then... hear back from you in a month or two

wind resistance will be the only unknown factor. all objects accelerate at the same rate under gravity. no need to even weigh the toy.

why not do it off the CN tower. The extra height may give youa bit more at the top end LOL

Its hard to drop stuff off C.N. tower as there is a net around the observation deck(to stop jumpers)

I suggest for the next flight Marc should glue the model of Esprit(covered in short wool tufts) to planes wing, so he can photograph it from the cabin in flight so we can study the shapes aerodynamics at 380m.p.h. B)

Wind resistance being of course the KEY factor Teigan! We DO live on planet earth therefore the whole "all things accelerate the same under gravity regardless of mass" is not relevant!

Hence the conept of terminal velocity even exists otherwise it would continuously accelerate. However the accelration forces from gravity reach an equilibrium with friction

the fun part on the cn is jumping up and down on the glass panels in the floor to see if they can crack. The look of horror on peoples faces is priceless!!!

don't forget to tape the doors and engine/bootlid down. they may flyopen causing more resistance. ;-)

Got stuck once in the elevator with the hugest, fattest ,most obnoxious American tourist couple.

The terminal velocity for an average human skydiver is only about 120mph so I doubt that dropping an AA Esprit from the CN tower 500 meters above ground would beat it.

Unless someone has a friend in the military and can get their real car on a transport carrier, that really would be the fastest Esprit

Surely that would depend on the "Mass" to "wind resistive surface showing at any given time" ratios of a human and the AA car?

Front bumper down (like a dart and attacking wind resistance in the same way as we drive them) I would imagine the Esprit Model would cause much less friction tha a human being.... But it then depends on whether there is still sufficient Mass to accelerate it to a good speed?

I can see myself weighing the model I have here and breaking out my O'Level physics F=ma type equations!

They're not entirely independent. The aerodynamic drag force depends on the square of the speed. The terminal velocity is reached when the drag force equals the gravitational force and the acceleration stops. Try dropping an empty paper bag and one with a couple of decent-sized stones in it from an upstairs window and see which hits the ground first.

that's deceptive because the weighted bag will have a better airfoil orientation. the unweighted bag would flutter on its side. if you drop two bowling balls of the same size, they'd hit the ground at the same time, no matter what weights they were and how far they dropped together from.

USAndretti is right although weight is not the issue Mass and the object coeficient of drag (Cd) is. Acceleration due to gravity (9.8M/s) is constant and viscosity of air is relatively constant.

Tiegan, your theory of the bowling balls only works in a vacuum, drop a hammer and feather on the moon and watch them hit the ground at the same time.

There was a guy that reached over 200 mph skydiving but he had to go to the edge of space and wear special breathing and streamlined equipment to do it.
