Can't help you with that one yet. I've got to go to my local motor factors today so I'll see if I can pull the arial out of the car for a comparison. I'll let you know if I find anything.

John Hazzard (BRG Classics) Was reputed to know of a good replacement. Failing that, assuming they haven't butchered it in the process, I have had my replacement removed all together from my '86T. B100dy carbunkle if you ask me... Take a beautiful car like that with those lines and that styling and stick a huge great panel wart right in the middle of it!

Now on the downside of mine, it was never a 100% fit - it fitted just fine to the panel etc but when the aerial was extended it would stick out ever so slightly at like a 10 degree angle.

Do the right thing.... have the aerial glassed over! (You know you want to!!! :))

Del,

mine's on the back in the boot - easy to get at for maintenance etc. Want me to look at what type it is?

Hang on - I don't need to - the receipt and instructions are in the history file!! God bless you, previous owners.

It's a Hirschmann 921 738-002.

Again though, this is on the back - don't know if it would fit in the front.

Cheers

Ed

Yes, space is pretty limited in the wheel-well plus it needs to be 'of a certain length' between the motor and where you actually mount the panel wart......

  • 4 months later...

How do you get the aerial out in the first place? I have a Series 2 and the wheel arch liner seems to be moulded in and I can't see a panel inside the car and manual is no help (suprise, surprise). Does the door have to come off?

I am afraid you have to take the drivers door of to get to it. It is between the outer and inner wing skins. Oh and just to make life intersting the arial wire is taped together with all the other wires under your dash. So if ya gonna replace it with a new one I would proberbly cut the arial wire and feed the new on ethrough.

I am sorry I did mean to check the make of the one I have taken of. I will check it tomorrow and post the details. As was mentioned room is tight but if you have a friendly parts supplier he might let you do a test fit of a different unit as long as you don't damge it or it packaging. But then again they may not, ya can never tell.
