We’re returning to the wonderful Bilster Berg after our 4 fantastic visits in 2016/17/19/20. As with the last couple of years we’ve been able to organise a Saturday evening that will hopefully allow members to either do the day as a one off or double up with our main Spa date on the following Monday.

Note: This event is being run on Saturday afternoon/evening: 2pm-6pm – so 4 hours of open pit lane track time against an average of 7hrs on most days.

Modelled on the likes of the Ascari Resort in Spain, the entire circuit has been designed from scratch by Hermann Tilke, the industry’s most experienced circuit architect. He is best known for renowned F1 circuits such as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Malaysia, Istanbul, Shanghai and has now turned his hand to creating a New Nürburgring, “The natural ‘Nordschleife flair’ with high safety standards will continue to enthuse every driver. With various ideal lines, the corners allow for approximately identical lap times, while nature itself dictates the unmistakable signature of the test track.”

It is not only the very special scenic-park-like ambiance which makes Bilster Berg so unique. The 4.2 kilometres long track has 19 bends, 44 crests and dips, more than 200 meters change in altitude and declines up to 26%. It truly is one of the great circuits in Europe.

Noise limit: 101db static & 98db drive by *

Noise Limits

Static test – A noise meter is placed at a 45 degree angle to the exhaust outlet and 50cm away. The car is then held at 3/4 of its maximum rev limit and the highest reading recorded is the cars recorded noise output for the day. A static limit of 105db is very high and very few cars have an issue with this. At 98db cars with a cat, std factory manifolds and exhausts will generally be ok. Anyone with a very loud exhaust/manifold should be careful.

Drive by – This test is recorded at track side as the car is moving at track speed. Depending on the circuit the reading will be taken between right next to the track and up to 20 meters away. Cars with forced induction tend to have more issues with drive by, even though they tend to pass static tests as the s/c or turbo’s only kick in when run at speed. There are many things that affect drive by readings from wind direction, air temperature, how low the cloud cover is or even what line you are driving.

Format: Open pit lane

Format

A sessioned event means that the day will be structured into usually 3 separate groups which take it in turns to go out on track for a set time, normally 20 minutes. Each car will be restricted to their group for the duration of the day. Drivers are generally allocated a group depending on their experience level or type of car.

An Open Pit Lane event means that cars are free to go out onto the track when they choose (providing the circuit limit or our normally reduced limit has not been reached).

Important participant & vehicle information: Please read

Participant & Vehicle Information

Clothing must fully cover arms & legs.

Crash helmets must be in good condition and suitable for circuit driving in a car. (Convertible/flip-up helmets are not permitted)

ANY vehicle without a hard top or fixed roof will require occupants to wear full face helmets.

Alcohol must not be consumed, including at lunch time.

All drivers must be 21 – 75 years old (2nd drivers 21 – 70).

All drivers must present their full driving licence at sign on.

Final instructions will be emailed out 4 days before the event.

2nd Driver & Passenger Information

LoT club members may have up to 3 passengers free of charge on all events, upon presentation of a valid membership card at sign on.

Second drivers: must be 21-70 years old, no exceptions.

Passengers: must be 18-75 years old, no exceptions.

Crash Helmet: Not available due to C19

Due to the nature of the day we can’t accept anyone who holds a current race license.

* road legal Lotus & Caterhams with cat should have no issue with noise. The circuit operate a transponder system to identify cars – we have discussed noise at the end of all 3 previous days and there were no concerns over our return. However, we will keep the number of cars low & control their type. Noise operates on a bucket system – so less cars means less noise – similar to Zandvoort.

Covid 19 – we have put in place some additional measures click here. Although some of these rules may be reduced by this event it is important that you expect that they will still be in place.
