Removing Weather Shield

Recommended Posts

The previous thread on removing stickers got me thinking... so.. My Monaco white Esprit has Star Shield like body protection at the side valances, and the right&left bottom rear bumper. They are very yellow due to their age. I purchased new ones from Lotus and would like to know how best to remove them and install the new ones. I was able to start removing them at the corners, but now, even with a blow dryer, the darn things won't come off... Any ideas?

Thanks!

3M have a couple of product that help getting old decals and starshield off.

One is 3m decal remover. You spray it on and it softens the decal material usually allowing it to be pulled off. A similar effect can be obtained with Gasoline but it is messier and smellier to use.

If that dont work, 3M have a 6" Scotch Brite Moulding removal disc. You chuck it up into a drill and slowly it rubs the starshield material away.

Both these products are available at auto body supply shops.

I personally dont like Starshield or helecopter tape. Id rather have a few rock chips than that cloudy or yellow mess. :huh:3M_8908.JPG3M_8907.JPG
