Lifting Body of Esprit NA X180 1990 Chassis with Engine in place.

Recommended Posts

Hi.  Does anyone know how high I would have to lift the bodyshell up to roll out the chassis on my Esprit please?  The reason is I have limited headroom in my garage.  Thank you in advance.

I did it on an S2 in a lock-up single garage without any problems.   If I recall, there were about 6 'lifters' and we put an Acrow prop under each wheel arch to allow the chassis to be rolled out.

Presumably if you measure the height of the top of the engine to the floor.  And measure the bottom of the sill to the top of the car roof.   These 2 figures added together would provide the scientific answer!

Thank you, what I did not mention is that the engine is out now before body lift and when putting the body back the engine will be in place.  I am making trestles and want to get the correct height without hitting my garage ceiling with the roof.

The Esprit is a very low car, so if can comfortably stand under the trestles you'll have enough room to lift the body over the engine as well. Unless you're Thyrion Lannister, then you need the trestles higher than you can reach. 😄

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

This is an example of the clearance required for the V8, but it would not be hugely different for the 4-cylinder
