Twice The Car It Once Was

Well I finaly did it today.

I split the body from the chassis. It only took 6 people to lift the body of and into the workshop. It all went quite well only 1 groin strain, 2 strained backs and a couple of asthma attacks :P

Damn the body is heavy. The chassis is in excelent condition I'm not sure about the 5 year warrenty that lotus gave with the chassis they could have made it 20 years. I was very impressed.

Stripped down quite a lot more once it was in the workshop. I think lotus should have used galvanised nuts abolts 'cos I have either snapped or had to cut of a majority of the bolts. The fuel tanks are in good condition which a was pleased about I had heard they had a habit of rusting through.

I now have an increasing pile of bits strewn accross the garage, hope I can remember where they all came from :)

"Wow.... look at all the bits I've saved!"

Lol

I remember working on my first car, a Mk11 Cortina 1600E...

Everytime i took it apart I'd put all the bolts, washers etc in a tin for safekeeping....

without fail, once I'd bolted everything back together there would be a handful of bits rattling around in the can...

never knew where they came from, and the car would run perfectly......

used to just lob them in the hedge on my parents drive and forget about it! :)

Hahahahaha!

After the number of sundry parts lobbed in there over the years, your hedge has since gone on to do a sub 10 second standing quarter! :)

Well I know I'm gonna be missing at least one part on the rebuild. The screen cracked as we were removing it :D

Other than that it is completely striped and tomorrow should see the end of the sanding, prior to the primer anyway

Mmm...

If the MOT was still valid by the time you got it on the road, this would have been covered by insurance (had it happened then and not now, of course)
