Hello All,

Looks like my questions are coming fast and furious now as I reassemble the S2.  Can anyone advise how their speedometer cable is routed from the gearbox to the speedometer.  Does it run along the left side of the engine bay and then turn inward before it crosses into the cabin via the loom access holes or does it run over the top of the engine ?  I was worried that engine heat might damage the cable over time which is why I'm a bit hesitant to run it over the top of the engine.  Any advice ?

Thanks,

Lou R

Hi Lou,  The speedo cable in our Citroen-transmission'd Esprit starts on the left side, runs over the transmission to the right side of the engine bay (where it's cooler), then routes into the backbone chassis. It eventually ends up in the instrument binnacle.

If you want me to stop by your place, so that you can check it out yourself, send me a DM. Remember, our '88 has VDO instruments, not Smiths. But I bet the routing is the same.

I know that the cables themselves are a different configuration than Renault-transmission cars.

Hi Atwell,

I'm certain the S2 cable was routed through the cabin via the rear bulkhead.  That cable (as well as the tach cable, oil pressure plastic hose, choke cable and one other cable I can't recall at the moment) all pass through the bulkhead via a hole next to the hole the loom passes through - these cables are hidden by the console.  This hole was just off center to the right when looking at it from the back of the car.  It makes sense the cable ran along the right side of the engine so I'll do the same on my car except I'll pass it through the bulkhead and run it through the cabin vs. the frame.  You're probably right about Lotus using the same routing  between the earlier and later cars.

Thanks,

Lou R
