Derek Bell's 1st Motion Shaft Kit

Recommended Posts

It appears the clutch release bearing is failing on my car. (02,16K !!)

As the gearbox has to be removed to gain access and knowing that the

main input shaft has a weakness it seems a good time to implement Mr Bells upgrade.

Which will not only prevent a possible failure in the future but allow the output of the engine (BHP and torque)to be improved.

The car has been delivered to Steve Williams

to have the gearbox removed, Steve has already received the center clutch hub from AP to ensure it matchs up with end spline on the new motion shaft. Once happy with that Steve will ship the gearbox and kit to Chris Cole of Mach 1 transmissions

They will be machining the gearbox casing in order to accept the new shaft, which has a larger rear bearing 1

Mark,

I presume it the Quaiffe Auto Torque Biasing (ATB) diff. You can actually get them a bit cheaper but 700 quid all in is not bad.

The US V8 boys are fitting them a lot at the moment. As you know I have one in my box. With the torque of the V8 you might well notice it a far amount (especially the way your drive !!!). It is the grip out of corners which is most noticeable.

The person rebuilding the box will need to know the preload on the diff. I used the figures from the Sport 300 which had the Lotus diff fitted.

Steve will notice that the gearbox driveshaft seal is different with the ATB, makes it even more tricky to get a good oil seal on the drive shafts.

Yes Dermot, the ATB is the Quaiffe Unit

Discovered that Derek's Kit is also made by Quaiffe.

Car should be put back together by 16/17th, fingers crossed

Steve has found out why I was having trouble with the clutch. (the original reason for taking the GBox out) Once he got the gearbox out the Idle/pilot bearing which fits on the end of the crankshaft fell off. This should be a tight push-fit.

Bearing is only
