I notice Dermot is running RP. I have a friend that uses it in his car too and likes it a lot. I'm thinking about a switch in part cos Mobil 1 is getting nearly as expensive.

What viscosity though??

When I first got my S4 I was using 10W-30 (I didn't know this was way off cos the PO's DEALER was running it) and when real hot at idle the oil pressure light would go on.

I very quickly switched to M1 15W-50 and have had no pressure problems since.

Yes, but my car sees VERY little street use...

On the street, maybe 35-40miles a month...I live real close to work, and the track, and usually drive my Audi S4.

On the track, maybe ~100-150miles a month aprox 6-8 months of the year.

Do you think 20W-50 won't be viscous enough on the cold side?

I used to run Valvoline VR-1 20/50 will no ill affects. valvetrain might be a little noisy on cold mornings though...

I am told that RP has excellent bearing protection properties.

I have the Racing 41 in the car at the minute.

It is too thin and I am using a bit of oil. RP do not publish the data on their oils but I got out of them that Racing 41 does not meet the Lotus minimim vicosity test at 100 deg C.

I will change to Racing 51 in a few weeks.

Just picked up a case of RP 20W-50. Will try in a few weeks.

It's actually cheaper than M1. The RP cost me ~$56. A case of M1 would cost ~$62.
