Anyone know what this might have been?

the car has Johan chip, yellow wastegates kn airfilter, 2x radiator.. etc. etc.

again everything else seemed fine.. just that light..

could it have to do w/ the higher hp (450hp) due to power mods?

The stock MAP sensor ony goes to 2 bar, though I've never had any CEL when overboostingat Vmax (approx 2.2 bar) . Are you sure your wastgate capules aren't knackered?

just purchased them.. tested them and they start to open at 9psi and fully open at 12psi... that sound right to you? I've had them installed for 1-2 thousand miles...

could they be faulty or installed wrong?

The manual indicates this is a "connectivity test" error. The logical equivelant of the wire comming off between the MAP sensor and the ECU. Since it's intermittent it will be a bitch to find! The MAP sensor is a three wire device, ground, +5.0 VDC from the ECU and the variable output signal based on map. The problem could be the ground, the variable output wire or the MAP sensor itself. I have read on various Esprit lists of various sensors, knock, IAT, and now MAP of having this intermittent "connectivity error" under hard acceleration. There's a common thread here somewhere!

I have had an intermittent P0328 error (knock sensor) for over 2 years which I cannot isolate. I've tried cleaning grounds, connectors, replacing the knock sensor all to no avail. E-mails to Lotus have provided no help.

What year is your car?

I had a similar issue...5th gear, jump on the throttle at around 80 miles...all the way to 145 mph & CEL came on...

Mine was a P0328 issue (Knock Sensor Circuit High Input)...I asked my mechanic to clean the ground wire contacts & so far still looking if that solved the problem...

I have been communicating with Wayne for a while & we're still working together to find a solution...

99.. mine isn't that problem.. I've taken it above 120 PLENTY of time this is the first time it happened.. has not happened since but I also haven't done 120+ since either.. I'll try it this weekend

well, same here...I've taken my car to 145 plenty of times, but it only happened once...however, this sympton is kind of weird...it only happens once in a while & everyone seems to get some kind of circuit high input faulty code. Also everyone seems to have some kind of ECU upgrade (Mostly Hi-Torque, but in your case the Johan chip)...I'm not saying it's not caused by the ECU upgrade. I also know a 98 V8 owner that experienced a P0108 faulty code, his car had the Hi-Torque upgrade as well...see the following link:

Well, yes or no...I don't think we can't do anything other than reset it & see if it comes back. They usually only come up when you drive hard (sometimes they don't come up when you drive hard)...if you track your car then pay attention after every track session...it may come up...if it doesn't then you probably don't have to worry about it...

We've gone over this before. Your combo will give you more than 12psi, more than 15psi up to 19-20psi thru your midrange. Eventually boost will tapper off to 12-13psi in the upper RPMs only because the turbos are too small to keep up.

In the higher gears, 4th & 5th, you spend alot more time at a given RPM. It is very possible that because of the RPM you were in, boost lingered ~ 18-19psi long enough to trigger a CEL. Usually in the lower gears & higher RPM's, boost will tapper off before the CEL is triggered.

interesting information gmendoza.. Do you really think I am making as muych as 18-19psi of boost with my setup though? I was under the assumption that at 12psi with spikes of 14-15 would be the max here..

BTW the check engine light came on again.. 4th gear under hard acceleration(same exact circumstances).. at 51 degrees outside temperature..

is this something I just have to keep disabling? or should I look into fixing the sensor.. perhaps it's weather related..

however gmendoza.. this is intermittent.. and there are 100 other times I am WOT in 4th gear and this never happens.. also this error is said to be a "connectivity error" in the manual.. so it isnt' reporting any overboosting.. just that connectivity from the sensor to the ECU is off..

Pano try and find a company who just specializes in EFI, car computers, performance chips, electrical wiring, sensors that kind of thing. They are your best bet and have all the testing tools to really get deeper into your problem rather than relying on the Lotus Scan tool Tech 1 etc that the agents have. While it brings up this reoccuring code, it may not be directly related to it and can lead to other things that trigger it. We have a Co here actually close to home who just specialises in this and our Lotus service agent sends his clients over there now to sort our issues over night rather than over 3 months!!

I am personally having trouble with one particular 02 sensor, even though it was just replaced last month. After every run I am having to turn off the check engine light using my Ez scan 4000 to ensure its the same code popping up pain in the butt. I know its not right so I am getting the car fully inspected in the next few weeks when I can get it in.. they seem to have alot of Esprits in there now lol!!

well I suppose I will just turn it off again.. if it happens a 3rd time I will change out the sensor to the one recommended from summit racing.. then see what happens..

Pano, how long into the journey were you (how warm was the engine)?

I've also got the yellow springs in the waste-gate capsules and have had a couple of error codes when the engine is relatively cold. I get the feeling that the yellow springs when cold are too stiff, but once warmed up become more flexible and behave in accordance with the ECU's 'safety' checks.

the car was definitely warm.. I Was driving for at least 30 min before this happened..

I turned it off today.. floored it in 3rd and 4th.. no code.. I'll keep driving it and flooring it tonight and this week to see if it comes back..

update..

just came back at about 7k rpm in 4th gear.. going to order a new one..

I almost positive you are getting more boost than you think. You should really check your peak boost with a reliable boost gauge.

I plan to gmendoza.. however yet again the problem as not come back with more than a few full throttle accelerations.. ugh.. oh well I will still install a new sensor etc.

however I will do a ECU reboot tonight see if it drives better
