Lotus Damper Programme For Esprits

Recommended Posts

I read this on LEW news. Does anyone know more? ...like when they'll hit the market?

Damper programme @ Hethel

Lotus will be starting a damper programme shortly for the Esprit. This is to produce new spec dampers to replace those that are now or will become unavailable. This will be a full programme using up-to-date damper technology, unlike the original stuff that was using 70's designs. This programme will be ongoing over the next few months and split over the model range, with 93< first and the older models later.

LEW will be helping with this programme, which could also involve a few owners helping out. Lotus will be looking for certain models for testing and some Esprits that are no longer standard to see how different modifications effect the handling of the Esprit and its damper set-up. Details will be on the site once we have the info from Lotus.

Hi Luke,

Besides the Factory, I imagine the first person who will know will be Kato himself, so I guess keep your eyes peeled to LEW - maybe try e-mailing Lotus perhaps to ask if it is a very long term project or one that is soone enough that it's worth holding off buying new shocks? Whether they'll REPLY or not is another question! :)

e-mail Kato and ask him to ask?

Guest Troy Halliday

I have just been checking out who makes shocks/dampers for the S3 (pre 85).

So far I have had replies from GAZ and Spax. I didn't word the emails to them correctly so now I'll have to find out about Springs aswell.

Does anyone use aftermarket suspension on their early Esprits if so any recommendations.

Oh and while I think of it I just got a price on shot blasting the chassis,

How could the V8 dampers/springs be ok for the 4cyl cars with the exta weight they carry?

Kato had the S350 setup on his SE and found that it was riding too high for that very reason.

I believe he changed it for the GT3 setup.

It seems like Lotus is looking for an adequate vendor to supply their parts bins for late model cars to maintain the stock driving characters, and not a vendor to supply parts to those that may want to alter their vehicle from stock.

Luke.

The programme is just starting, not sure how long it's intending to last and when the products will be available. I'll know more soon, so keep an eye on the news page.

Other info for suspension is here:

The 350 suspension (now powder coated) is now for sale here. LEW's Esprit is now on powder coated GT3 suspension, which is the same as S4 & S4s spec stuff.

Think PNM do suspension for the S3. Call and ask.
