who wouldnt exchange their Esprit for a Lambo?

Ian asked this question in the 'Lambo door' thread  .

I thought it was a pretty good question/talking point so lets make it a topic then, should we ignore service and running costs though?...

For me, ANY diablo model would do it.

Early countach only.

Jalpa Possibly.

Espada no.

You?

Orange Diablo is the ultimate for me, no idea how much it would cost to insure and run, services etc.. Im not a big fan of the countach, and would rather have an Esprit than a Countach.

Make mine a Diablo SE30 in that purple colour and I'll deliver all my Esprit parts to you front door personaly!

Mind you for the Price of a clutch I could buy another couple of Esprit projects.

For me it has to be a Countach Anniversary or Diablo Roadster or Miura (not in that hideous lime green!) I might be persuaded at the outside to a Murcielago Roadster!

Am I just getting old or is it some kind of Esprit addiction? This thread prompted me to visit the Lambo site and make a choice. Diablo then Countach - but the body shape is of a similar ilk to the Esprit.

More worrying - did all super car body shapes hit a peak during 80-90s? The older shapes look a bit boxy and the current generation have the chopped off "stubby" shape typified by the Audi tt - yuk!

You know,

When i think what ferrari, lamborghini, Aston martin, masarati, Lotus, mclaren, jaguar, Detomaso, porsche, chevrolet etc were putting out in that period...

...and whats about now  .

I'd say '80-'90 was a damn good decade too!

('89 in particular  )

The recent crop of cars are lacking passion. Cars like the Countache, Diablo, Esprit, Merecedes 300sl Gulwing (don't tell anyone I said that cos I'm not a big fan), Cobra, Corvette Stingray (early ones mot the plastic crap they throw around now), GT40 and the list goes on made you feel something when you first saw and heard them. With a lot of cars today the only emosion they seem to envoke is disapointment.

True legislation is making it hard for designers to be freely creative. They have to redesgin so many aspects of their cars just to be allowed to make them. Technology seems to have replaced style as the main focus of new supercars. Yes we all want a car that performs incredibly well, but when your stuck in traffic or parked up at your favourate pub, club or resturant al there is to the car is it's looks. Supercars rely on the branding far to much now, they rely on people knowing it's an expensive exotica.

I know it's a sweeping statement and there are exeptions here are a few, well at least a few that I think are butiful and inspiring cars in one way or another. There is a but here though can you see what it is?

Yes I do realise that the last one is a concept and would be full of electronics but at least it has style.

Well thats my rant ........... I mean my take on it. I have always been a die hard Lambourghini fan but the news ones do little for me.

I think it's a great try from a mass market manufacturer and WAAAAY better that the Audi t1TTy jelly mould nonsense.

Then of course there is the HSC's inspiration - the jaw dropping Zonda!  ;)

Think it would have to be a Diablo for me, although one of my all time favourites, if money was no object cars, would have to be the McLaren F1 especially the LM edition.

Hi all ,

DB9 - the best looking car in the world IMHO and british - and if i start saving i might get one in ten years ( but i would probably spend the money on another esprit ). Quite like the Murcielargo and keep thinking of trying to get a test drive as they have main dealers in stockport 3 miles from me. Do you think they can be conned into thinking an esprit is worth enough to warrant a test drive?

No I wouldn't exchange I'd have both!!!

Is that cheating?

The reality is that legislation has limited car manufacturers. But at the end of the day given any figure there's is no huge choice out there!

Hi,

Mister Bond give us the world known answer: LOTUS and ASTON but no LAMBO.

And for handling , rocket speed, and the rest some guys in hethel surely are able to proove that ESPRIT is the best !
