Yep the (I think) 1985/6+ cars were EFI.

Also iirc your bumpers are ever so slightly different - I think they may even have something inside them (or perhaps that's the other way around?)

Do imported cars have to 100% meet your rules / laws in quite the same way as domestically sold cars?

I'm not really sure what has to be done. I was wondering, because I saw a BMW Z1 the other day on the street. It had swiss plates on it. So i dont really know what has to be done in order to be driven here.

That's *totally* different. If you're a forigner you can bring your car over with you (for a limited time) while you're visiting a. la. Gumball

Luke.

  • 1 month later...

In the U.S. we have the Federal production and then we have the California production. I cannot speak for the later cars since I am only familiar with the S1 and S2 early G cars. It does not matter if the car is left or right hand steering, what matters is the bumpers, carburation, smog pump and air plumbing, cat, possibility cams, vaper recovery system, etc. It may also require steel impact braces in the doors.

Very detailed and bureaucratic.

As indicated ealier, you can bring over your personal car for a limited amount of time, but do not try to sell it without doing all the requirements for Federalization and Californiaization. They seem to change from one monent to the next until you get a feelling of understanding of what is going on. Good luck.
