After a very wet day at Brands GP a couple of weeks back with, I kid you not, 11 red flags and 9 busted cars, I was wondering what anyone did for wet weather track tyres? I've never really liked the 48's in drizzle, and wanted to try and use the car over winter.

On the s2 sport 190 I did use Toyo T1-Rs which are very good in the wet. Still not a true wet tyre but reasonable.

In the end though I just adjusted to the 48's and found them to be pretty good once used to them in everything other than a monsoon.

I had a set of AO39's on my cup. I did a couple of trackdays in the wet on them and found them to be very good.

Not the cheapest, but if you are going to just use them in the wet they will last a couple of years (they might go off before you wear them out)

They are very good in the wet but wear out pretty quickly if the track drys and you don't have the luxury of a set obf dry and wet tyres.

2 years might be optomistic as will harder up quite a bit but unless you are an absolute looney in the wet the drop off in performance shouldn't really be noticable.

the 39's are a good road tyre and ok on track where as the 48's are good on track and ok on road.

The main differences with the 39's (aside from tread pattern) is that on the 39's the compound is a little harder and the sidewalls much softer.

So would I be all on my lonesome with 39's or is anyone else making the switch for winter (or just leaving it in the garage)?

I'm hibernating mine, but if I weren't I'd be going the 39s route. A pal with a supercharged S2 Honda Elise said they were the best he had found, and he'd tried most tyres out there over the years.

Hi Tam !

I had the T1R on the Europa. Sides were not stiff enough for the Europa weight. I think they would be good on a 211. Massive use in rally when they don't have "racing tyres".

Franco with worn out 048 ...that was an experience..in the afternoon I did mount some new 048s....that was really night and day...no surprise...

I've got a set of full proper wet Avon tyres we can't use any more if anyone is interested. They have been scrubbed in and thats all. Its a very stable tyre so good on a drying track and will last for days on the 211. Naturally they are significantly better than any of the Toyo and Yokohama track day type options. Sadly they are not road legal. I also have some used Avon and Pirelli slicks if anyone fancies trying some serious grip.
