Well I completed the chasis today ;)

I'm very pleased with it and will update my album tomorrow with some more pictures. I did take some but they are realy out of focus, must have left the camera on closeup :D

Here's a sneek preview.

If you look at the picture carefuly you will notice the slightly wet floor where I had a bloody good clean up just for the pics ;)

The chasis gets rolled back outside today and the body comes back in. As soon as I have sprayed the underside of the car with stonechip I'll be bolting it back up to the body so I can start to spray it. :D

Any body spotted the mistake on the front end yet.

No, well I can't blame you I have only just noticed it. It's all going to have to come apart again. Oh bugger ;)

And to everybody else, why aren't you all congratulating Troy on a job well done (well, nearly well done !!) ?!?!  ;)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

They proberbly noticed that I have fitted the Antirole bar on upside down :D

Not a major problem but I will need to recompress the front springs and remove them, pull the vertical links out of the way by undoing the trunion to chasis bolt so that I can get to the nuts on the end of the antirole bar. Flip it round the right way (to make clearence for track rod arms) and put it all back on again. I estimate about 1 - 1.5 hours.

I'm just glad I noticed it now and not later when I fitted the body back on. I was getting ready o fit the aliminium cooling pipes back in but noticed that they were quite corroded after removing all the limescale. made a few phone calls and it is apparently quite commen. The normal fix is to repair the wholes with Chemical Metal or Araldite, and push the hose on a little further securing with 2 jubilee clips. I wasn't to keen on this idea and seeing that I have the body of I can replace them, something that you can't normaly do with the body on. I have managed to sorce a supplier for straight lengths of aliminium tubing with beadedends but no one to bend the tubes. So I may use two straight lengths as apposed to one straight and one witha 90 degree bend and use rubber hose to make the bend.

I have now recieved my upgraded radiator I had it made with a three core element and better fins and had the vertical supports removed from the back of the rad to the front so that I can fit my two new Pacet fans which fit directly onto the back of the rad. I have also got a new brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder and am just waiting for my reconditioned rear calipers to turn up.

It is so nice to get new shiny clean bits so that I can start to clear out all the old rusty parts.

I just can't wait to drive the damn thing ;)

Hi Troy....

I have just had to have the pipes replaced on mine.... it sounds like theyre the same ones - run almost the entire length of the car?

Geoff at Esprit Engineering had some 'aerospace firm' who I think is on the same industrial estate, make some up - maybe he can get them done for you too?

01725 514449 Let him know I sent you ;)

I have had a new rad too and have three of those new, Elise style fans mounted directly to the rad - they are lighter, more efficient, faster, cooler, less prone to breaking, don't have the cr4ppy, grp, fan-gantry that cracks instantly etc etc etc - So far I cant see any downside! Apart from when they come on... apparently they sound like a peugeot! :D

Oh yes... Looks fantastic btw! I wish my suspension (etc) looked like that and not a pile of rusty old parts! ;)

Cheers,

Robin

I have manged to get the 90 degree bend pipe from SJ (their last one apparently). I have found a place in kent that can do straight pipes so I will get the other on made by them. But there is all of the rest of the pipes to be done so I may well give him a call, I have some other questions to ask at the same time.

Well I have just fkipped the role bar over the right way and it took me 15mins. Here is how I did it but try it at your own risk.

I put a large clamp from the bottem wishbone to the top of the chasis tower and then ran a couple of straps round (although had the clamp failed I think these may have just slid up the bottem wishbone).

I then removed the Trunion to lower wishbone nut and pulled the vertical link out of the way. I then removed the nut from the end of the antirole bar. This was done on both sides.

I removed the brakets from the front of the chasis. Span the role bar over and sloted it back in. I replaced the nyloc at the end of the antirole bar, leaving it slack. Loose fitted the antirole bar to chasis brackets. Tightened up the nuts, then the brackets. Repositioned the vertucal links, bolted them back up. Then carefully undid the clamps keeping my face well clear of the spring.

All went well, job done. ;)

Now tomorrow I can spray the underneath of the car with Gravitex. Which will make it look neater underneath and cut down on a bit of road noise. And put the body back on the chasis ready to be primed and painted. Easy :D

Thanks for the comments guys I was wondering wether I should continue to put my progress up on the site or not. I know I'm all enthused about it but I forget others aren't.

Hmmmm ...................... maybe thats why I'm single again ;)

I'm aiming for June but I think it may be a bit of a stretch. I will work on it with that date in mind and if it takes longer it takes longer. But I want to drive it this summer so it's full steam ahead.

I start priming tomorrow all being well. I will hit the body first and then prime up the rest after. I just don't have room in the garage for it all. When I spray the colour I will be doing it in two garages running from one to other applying paint.

I'll post some pics tomorrow of how I have prepaired the garage for painting. I have basicaly put plastic sheeting on the walls and floor tanking it all of from dust. I am trying to source an extraction unit at the moment but with not much sucses.
