Help Changing a Clutch

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys.

I got a 1991 Esprit. The clutch is starting to slip. If I feed it easy I think I can nurse it a long way, but I dont have the hoist or tools to change it.

Is there anyone out there that wants to make some extra money and help me change this clutch?

Let me know.

Hi Geo - might help if you tell us which Town / City / Country you are in?! :D

Hullo.

Just changed the clutch on my '89 (Renault box, like yours).

Didn't need to remove the tranny or disconnect the driveshafts.

I'll make this short----and just cover the major points.

1)Disconnect electrics and remove trunk and fill panel.

2)Remove muffler.

3)Remove muffler/shift linkage bracket.

4)Remove turbo intake hose.

5)Disconnect turbo drain (at turbo).

6)Loosen turbo and raise up, or remove.

7)Remove clutch slave cylinder.

8)Jack up car, put on jackstands, then remove rear chassis crossmember.

9)Remember to support tranny and engine now.

10)Remove tranny holdown bolts and side brackets.

11)Remove all clutch housing bolts and washers and keep track of which hole they came out of.(!)

12)Pull tranny all the way back (maybe 8"). Cussing helps here.

And there's your clutch!

Easy huh?

Oh yeah, buying some tools would help too.

Before you do anything, remember to check the adjustment screw at the clutch actuating fork (12.5mm).

I think that's it..........
