The V8 is specified as 350bhp and many run them with chips and mods at over 450bhp....

So yes it can handle it if driven sympathetically. If you slam it from gear to gear and just floor it you will probably not last very long!

Depends what car you have? If it's a V8 then if a bit dodgy. However if you have a 4 pot then the horsepower is less important. It's the torque that breaks gearboxes coupled with rear tyre width (grip). Because the 4 pot has less torque than a V8, there is less to worry about

350bhp at the wheels is high anyway, as usually production figure quote bhp at the flywheel as its a higher figure

the guy that owns the esprit r3 in states is tunning 477bhp at the wheels i belive but he might have different box

Don't they usually say 15% loss as a rule of thumb iirc.

Chris's V8 had a 450 bhp (= >380 to the wheels) chip on a standard gearbox.

The best way to convert power from wheels to flywheel is to add 10 then divide total by 0.88 (for rear wheel drive) or 0.9 (for front wheel drive).

I had a dyno on mine running 283.7BHP at the wheels, add 10 = 293.7/0.88 = 333.75BHP
