Bearing Adjusting Ring Nut

Recommended Posts

I've finally got around to replacing the drive shaft seals on my '88 Turbo.

Can anyone advise if the bearing adjusting ring nut on the O/S of the gearbox should be tightened until it stops or is there a specific procedure for tightening it?

Thanks.

Oh oh, it's a job for the bench. If you didn't count the turns and position of the adjuster before taking it off, the box needs to be opened. There's a set procedure for adjusting the crownwheel preload. No guarantee there won't be abnormal wear any other way. And given the cost of repairing it down the track I wouldn't advise any shortcuts.

If you didn't take the bearing nut off yet then don't. It doesn't need to be moved (and should not) to change the seals.

If you have already removed it, PM or email me and I can send you some info.
