Few bits needed for MOT advice please

I need to get the esprit on the road as the clutch has gone on my day to day car.

I have a few bits that need sorting for the MOT.

1) Number plate lights these are not lighting up I will check bulbs etc, but what are they off? as mine were sprayed over when the previous owner had car painted Tried to clean em but still mucky.

2) Do I need a rear view mirror for MOT? my front trim that it fits to is in the trimmers, I'll get it back if is needed for MOT.

3) Does the central locking work without battery connected? my passanger door did not lock when I locked the car. None MOT

1) do not know (G car was BL, do not know past that)

2) You need two, one driver's side, one either internal or passenger side (changes for different years, but pretty sure that's right for your car's age).

You need a minimum of two mirrors for an MOT. Either "centre (ususally windscreen mounted) and off side wing mirror" or "near side and off side wing mirror".

The number plate lights seem to be difficult to source either new or secondhand. If someone does know what car they were off please do post for everyones benefit.

General advice - If they are still on the car try to avoid removing if possible due to the high risk of breaking. Instead tap them several times as sometimes this is enough to get them working.

If this does not work, remove them very carefully, clean them very gently (eg toothbrush) as they are brittle with age. Put new bulbs in and refit with new spire nuts and screws.

If you need to replace them try SJ and PNM for second hand.
