Filling plastic

Recommended Posts

I neet to fill some holes in the steering binicle of a 88 n/a before recovering with leather. If I fibreglass patch the inside then P38 the hole will the fibreglass stick to the plastic. Has any one tried it?

In my experience P40 sticks like sheet to a blanket on most stuff and is stronger than P38 (I use both, they're both excellent products) - depends on the plastic entirely but my guess is that it's polyethylene in which case probably not (try it you never know but PE is usually very resistant). I'd put a taper on the holes with a large drill on each side so if you look at it from each side it's Vee shaped then fibre glass into it - becuase the taper is there the fibreglass will not pull through from either side - if you use P40 it'll be uber strong.

Other way to do it is to cut a similar plastic filler ad use a soldering iron to melt the hole in place and then use P38 to fill the gaps.

If you use Bostick or evostick to glue the leather in place it'll have a hard time pulling out thats for sure - I've used evostik as a crude filler before, it's so strong.
